Craigslist is quickly gaining a bad reputation as a haven for thieves |
Unfortunately, like most news reports - it's way behind the times. Craigslist has had a bad reputation as a haven for scammers for years.
It's good to see any attention drawn to them though. It's just a pity less time was spent covering the thriving fake check/moneyorder scams.
In Craigslist's favour, at least every email has a scam warning (not that many potential victims bother to read that).
I don't really see that it's Craigslists fault, it's down to educating the masses about fake checks and other scams.
I really think people should be made to take a fraud awareness test before they're allowed anywhere near the internet.
Edited to add - nice one, spot! |

"We feel badly for the victims of scams anywhere, and particularly when someone has misused Craigslist in order to scam someone," Ms. MacTavish wrote in an email yesterday.
Craigslist is an extremely unwise choice for those intent on committing crimes, since criminals inevitably leave an electronic trail to themselves that law enforcement officers will follow."
What a load of bollocks. Try telling that to the next scam victim Mrs "Our site is safe" .
@Spot. Nice job. It's just a pity, as BB says, that the article concentrates more on the prostitution angle rather than the scammers and the scams themselves. |
