Hey all you master baiters,

Following up on our recent discussion about images that
take forever to load, I made a new tool for you to use.

Go to [email protected]
Enter "419e@term3mber"
Now you can upload any image (like a WU receipt).
You will get a link which you can embed in your
email (or a code which you can give to your lad
and direct him to visit [email protected]).

It starts off showing line by line of the picture,
but it gradually grinds down to a crawl, and it will
never show the bottom 50% of the image (which of
course is where the MTCN will be written).

You also get a link which you can use to see how
often your lad tries to load the image, and what
IP address he is using.

Seriously excellent idea, thats gonna piss them off more then anything.

I sat there and watched the example load to where I could just see the first text, and that was like 5 minutes of waiting... They are gonna love it.

I'm seeing problems - FF just returns the alt text (the same as the image path), Explorer just redexes - is it a bandwidth problem? Too many baiters testing at once?

Thanks for the feedback folks.

I forgot to mention that the data has to be jpeg.
(The cgi program sends "Content-Type: image/jpeg").
One person uploaded a PDF and that will not work.

I think I see the problem with images that just
print the URL instead of starting to display :
I think the browser must receive the jpeg header
all intact, rather than byte by byte. So I've
changed the delay and buffering for the first
part of the file. This should now be fixed.

Please let me know if you see any other issues.
I'm adding the ability for you to specify the
maximum percentage of the file to display, and
the target amount time to reach that level, which
should be ready soon.

@Yousa : I havent seen any problems with website availability,
but the domain was just registered yesterday, so maybe your
DNS server is working off a stale cache? Can you see it now?

Like a site map, fake but real-looking contact address, a contact email for fun, and some fake ads?

You can stick the contact email to an autoresponder even... maybe theres some way to even get some re-baits out of it?

I foresee a hush falling over many internet cafes as Lotto Lads sit staring into their screens waiting to see their MG form slooooowly being revealed, and bear in mind that they pay by the hour for their pc time - so time is money to them.

This will be a fiendish torture for them and I hit hundreds at once, but don't worry I stick mainly to Lotto Lads, so there'll be plenty left for others to torment.

... and don't worry Bosoman. lotto Lads have the memory span of a goldfish, so they won't catch on, and Lads don't discuss things like this because they are in competition with each other.

I can see that some have been looking it up but I haven't heard back from them yet. I guess they're still waiting.

When they do I'll set up a new slip with the same details, but amended to show that they can only pick up their money at a specific office in another country. Very Happy

I have checked the example again
and with ie6 and broadband connection
it took about 30 seconds to get the top half
of the words bank of america

Tried an upload and seems to work ok

@scambuster3 : The top of the words "bank of america" load in about 30
seconds, but it takes another 20 minutes to get to 50% of the image,
and it should hang there, just "loading, loading..."

@IP freely : I agree, I'm not very good at making things look commercial,
so I went with a minimalistic look. I would welcome any replacement html.
Basically, all we need is a front page with an input box for "the code".
That's all the lad needs to see.

I'm glad to see people are putting this to use. Please let me know
if I can add features to make it better.

Here's an idea : some browsers pre-allocate memory depending on the
size of the image to be loaded. I can make some browsers crash by
adding an enormous bottom-border to the image. Try this one :

Great work!

I think a 'SUBMIT' button would be useful incase the lads don't know what to da after entering the code. Since it s a long long code, you could include a random "Invalid code, please check the number and try again" event just to add to the time wasting.

The site could have some headings along the lines of...

"SAFE IMAGE TRANSFER AND RETRIEVAL"
"This safe, secure and anonymous service to allow online access to important documents is provided as a free service by SITAR e-Services Pty Ltd"

Also, some of the more clever lads may want to know how the baiter was able to upload the file to the SafeImage site. You could have a separate page for uploading files. After the file is "submitted" for upload, a long online questionnaire pops up and must be completed before starting the upload, which, of course, will stall and fail also

Ok I tried slug3 in ie6
a yellow slug flashed on screen then dissapeared
and a black dot appeared in top left corner of screen

slug 4 gave me a large box outline, with a small square and red cross in top left corner of box

no crash Crying or Very sad

Great, that'll waste a lot of valuable internet cafe time.

I did prefer to use a renamed .dll file, something around 2 mB. If you renamed it as something like WUMTCN.jpg then the lad would spend hours trying to open it, as well as waste lots of time just downloading it, and it was always his fault that it wouldn't open.

Like:
Your computer mustn't have Windows Image Transfer 3.0
Clear you files and download it again
What operating system sare you using? (always the WRONG one)
Try opening it in Photoshop
etc, etc, etc

One thing though, when renaming a .dll file to send to a lad, copy it to another folder (you do have a folder named "Baiting files" don't you) before you rename it.

I'm sorry, but neither my IE nor my Firefox display anything like the effects described here. I get a pictur of a slug, that is quickly resized to a small dot, and a box with a red cross.

Am I doing something wrong?

Could you have an option to allow the bottom half of the picture to be something else than the original uploaded jpeg?

I'm think along the lines of an error message with 'please resubmit'
or a corrupted looking image. or even have it truncate as it is too big for the frame? Sadly that vital bit was just below where it got cut off?

I think that having a Lad come here, after being on the MT CN SE cure would seriously damage their brain,

Lad goes to this new site and has a really bad day.

I must find a lad to use it on.
