So there's this guy who has written a book on his "hilarious exchanges with internet spammers". Yes, spammers not scammers. There's a freebie excerpt, which is mildly amusing as a published bait, but not terribly believable. The lad seems to read and write English better than any I've encountered. I suspect it's all fiction, but you might get a smile out of it.

hmm, I seem to remember someone else writing a book like this, now what was his name?
Save yourself the price this new book, go to our published baits forum.
But don't forget to buy the other book, by wassisname... You know, wears the patch and says "aaargh" a lot. |

A friend of mine gave a book called "Tuesdays with Mantu" which is a publish-on-demand title from Borders Personal Publishing. I suspect it's a lot like the one you're talking about. A very short book with some straightforward baits that can't remotely begin to rival a lot of what we do on this site. The most painful part was that he actually sent money to a lad. He left off a couple of zeros from what the lad demanded so the amount was token ($10 or $20 IIRC) but I was still appalled. As we all know, there are plenty of ways to screw with a lad without giving him even a tiny amount of money.
I'm glad there are more books coming out about 419 and baiting, but these authors really need to come here for some training. |

^ I agree this "book" is kind of pathetic and obviously fictitious. I would never buy the actual product as the excerpt shows considerably less imagination than 99% of our members. But all publicity is good publicity. |

As a librarian we would purchase it for our library. Patrons need to read various formats on the subject. Some of the books that have been written on baits are boring; others are simple and funny. Most patrons want a quick read. Unfortunately major publishers don't want to enter the realm of "baiting" so authors have to self publish. |
