I've heard may times over the years that Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon can be synched perfectly with the film The Wizard of Oz to give a truly surreal experience.
Has anyone here actually tried it and was it worth the effort?

I haven't personally tried it. I believe that it is rubbish, but that's just my opinion. Snopes says it is undetermined.

There are some parts that sync up in an interesting way and others where the music and movie scenes are completely unrelated. It's coincidental. I suspect you could find other albums where select scenes line up with the movies in interesting ways.

The highlight is when all the clocks chime at the beginning of "Time". It happens right when the movie turns to color.

It works. I don't think it's intentional though. Whilst quite a few points of the film match up to the album, there are some lines/songs that could easily sync if they were moved or swapped with other lines.

I think it's a coincidence, but quite an awesome one.

Coincidence. In places it works, in others it doesn't.

People tend to remember the hits, and forget the misses--they remember where it happens to line up, but forget where there's no correlation whatsoever.

If anyone likes reggae, Easy All Stars did a great album called "Dub Side of the Moon", a really well done reggae cover album, which is Oz friendly, allegedly.

I remember doing this many years ago, people only count the "hits" and disregard the "misses" so I do believe it is a coincidence. But being a huge Pink Floyd fan, I still think it is very cool.

Pink Floyd didn't spend six months in the studio for nothing then.

I just wonder where the "...I've been mad for f*cking years" bit fits with the film? Maybe it's when the film goes from B & W into colour and freaks Toto out.

Apparently, if you play the Beatles Sgt Peppers album backwards it predicts President Kennedy's assassination. Shocked

that "perception of hits and forgetting the misses" thing explains a lot. if you have ever been in a bar/pub/nightclub where there's TVs on muted and the music playing loud? that's a dumb question but apparently even pantera syncs with j-lo. actually listening to metal and watching rap/hiphop videos is fun imo. the human brain seems to have this thing seeking for similarities in everyhting.

There's a commercial release of it that I've seen in the theatre...pretty entertaining...much better then the original! And yes, while DSOM was produced without the movie in mind, there are some unique synch points that make you wonder!

If you get the chance, I recommend catching a show by the Australian Pink Floyd. They put on a great show and do one set that is the complete DSOM! I think they're as valid as Roger Waters and his 10 guys who weren't born when the album was released.

It's a little know fact outside of Liverpool that Sgt Peppers was actually recorded in 1961, but was held back until Steve Martin's long lost brother, George, invented four track recording in 1967 and Ringo learned to sing and drum properly, although not at the same time, allegedly Laughing

The rest, as they say, is history.

Even though I'm not a big Wiz/Oz fan, I tried this once. Maybe I didn't sync it right, maybe I should have been stoned, but it was kind of here-and-there with matching to the scenes. I think it's the sort of thing where if you look for it, you'll find it if you want to!

Coincidentally, I've also verified the following things....

- Stairway played backwards makes no sense at all.

- Welcome To My Nightmare also syncs up with Psycho. Also not very well.

- Shout At The Devil played backwards will give you quite a headache.

- Brittney Spears played backwards sounds a lot like Brittney Spears played forwards.

- If you listen really closely to Sweet Emotion, you can hear a toilet flushing right before the chorus.
