I just discovered this past Friday that my elderly parents (both in their 80s) have fallen prey to foreign lottery rip-off scumbags. It's hard to believe that my parents, who I never would have imagined would have been so gullible, could have fallen for this, but basically they've sent these jokers almost $12K and took out a bank loan for $5200 to accomplish that.

So, I realize that very little can be done by now, but in the hopes that someone can think of a suitable revenge on these low-lifes I'd like to post what information I do have on them.

They were worked by three people, one who pretended to be a judge, one who claimed to be a lawyer, and one who was supposed to be a delivery agent. They were told they had won an Israeli lottery and all they had to do to claim their $500K in winnings was to pay various taxes and fees. They sent three money grams to Lod, Israel to two names:

Gill Dayari and Iren Gastar

The psuedonyms of the people who worked them and their toll-free numbers are as follows:
"Judge" Robert Gutter
"Office" xxxxx

"Lawyer" Henry Sanderfer
xxxxx

"Global Express"
Mark Edwards

Under the rationale that, even though I couldn't get their money back, I still might annoy these jerk-offs, I started calling their 800 numbers repeatedly, hanging up, ordering pizza, or just basically berating them to let off steam. At one point, the "judge" dropped all pretense and proceeded to tell me how all Americans were "Fat Cats" and we deserved what we got because we took all the land and women away from the native american indians and the money they took from our "old people" was going to go to deserving scandinavian orphans. On another call, they told my sister they were helping to feed poor South African orphans.

Anyway, FWIW, there's the info. It's still current as of today. I hope someone can con the con-men; if not, perhaps enough of you will call them so that they can at least be inconvenienced into changing their toll-free numbers.

Enjoy.

Hi Maddernhell, I have edited your post to remove the number, we don't allow the posting of phone numbers unless they are accompanied by the scam email in which the number was included, this is to prevent any possible abuse, whereby, someone could post an ex partners number just so they get abuse from baiters, or maybe an ex bosses number, things like that, we did have a sub forum for posting phone numbers some time back, sadly, it was abused, please post the emails that give the phone numbers, cheers.

There were no emails. They were contacted by phone.

I understand the rationale of your rule; sorry, I have nothing to back it up other than my word. Call the first number, the one for the "Judge", and they'll answer with something along the lines of "Lottery Gaming Commission". They answer the second one as "Sanderfer and Associates".

Oh well.

Contacted only by phone? That is highly unusual.

I believe that it isn't uncommon YW, and in Europe they also use mail only scams too, but that's okay I'm here to receive their calls and I'm sure we can arrange something to collect their mail scams.

I, and many others, specialise in certain types of scam and scammer and I'm one who nails Lotto Lads by the bucketful.

Just be careful maddernhell. It's almost certain that they will be back in a different guise trying their 'money recovery' scam on your parents next. Once they've located a paying victim they won't let go easily. Find out what personal info your parents have given out, as they may come back by phone or e-mail next.

Just out of curiosity and not arguing with your forum policy, but wouldn't it be trivial to just post some email and doctor the phone numbers in it if I had a mind to get even with an old girlfriend? I.e., why is posting an email with a phone number in it acceptable, while the phone number alone is not? It seems either could be abused.

Yes, I warned my parents about "recovery" scams. I filed a report with the FBI, but of course it's not their jurisdiction so there was nothing they could do. We've sent them tons of links to websites about these sorts of scams and have told them ANYTHING that asks for money is a scam. Whether or not the advice will take this time remains to be seen.

I googled those two 800 numbers and found them only in 800notes.com so I was able to add a warning message there for them under the name "maddernhell", fwiw.

Hey I feel sorry for your parents and hope I have told mine enough so they never fall for something like that, but I worry.
My $0.02
You're not going to like the next paragraph, but finish reading anyway please

We're a public forum and you are a new guy stating something. We can believe you and bait the @$@ of that number or we'll have to investigate and see if you are for real. We had some people coming in here with likewise statements that were just to bug their ex by email. Listen I'm not saying you're a liar, but if you were a possible victim wouldn't you be glad we checked first?

Second a phone setup only is not really what we're specialized in, some members here are great at it and won't hesitate to bug them enormously, the step to MG is the same, so from there we would have the "home" advantage again Laughing

It's hard to figure out what would be the right thing to hurt them bad, close the phone account is not one of the solutions as they are easy to get and replace after which you have no clue where they went.

Don't worry, one of the members here will step up and find the perfect solution to help your new phone pal. Twisted Evil

Last, I'm not a moderator and can only give my own opinion here

Edit: I read it twice and nope, English is definitely not my first language Laughing

This almost happened to my mom a couple years ago.Someone called, saying they had a grant of so many thousand, but you must pay this up front, blah, blah, blah. My brother thankfully heard what was going on,and knowing my love for messing with telemarketers gave the phone to me.I kept someone who spoke english with what I now know to be a west african accent busy for a half hour, even getting a "supervisor"on the line, before they tired of it and hung up on me.Mom had no e mail or anything like that, and since becoming involed here I recognize it as a 419 scam.So yes, they do sometimes only call. After a half hour with me ,they no doubt tagged my number as some sort of lunatic asylum. On the other hand,I thank God he and I were ther to head this off, because there is no doubt in my mind she would have bitten.

There is a elderly customer of the auto repair shop I work in,who's daughter has had to take the step of having an incoming call block put on her parents phone. If you call the number,to get through you need a code, but outgoing calls go right through. This may be something to think about.

@ maddernhell

I'm sorry to hear that about your parents. I will pray for them, plus I will continue my personal war against these dirty scammers!!! You just re-inspired me to continue what I am doing.

This board is awesome and a lot of wisdom can be had here, so read the stickies, get a mentor, and always, bait safe.
