Hi I'm curious if anyone knows the real name etc of the following scammer Mr Choy Chong Yip. I've done a bit of googling and found similiar emails with the same phone number posted on forums, I know the number is real as I called him and asked for Mr Choy Chong Yip. Hope someone knows.

No one here will know the real name.As you have figured out this is a scam e mail from a thief.H'm Chinese name with a Nigerian phone number-let's think about this.If you have been around this site at all,you know what it is.Let me be the first to welcome you,and give you advise you will hear many times.Read the stickies,request a mentor,bait safe.

@Nigeria - welcome to Eater. We don't have any way of knowing a scammer's real name. They use so many different names for so many different scams that they probably don't even remember their real names.

That said, if you want to bait this scammer, by all means do so. If you need some help, please let us know, and we will be glad to assist. Very Happy

Thanks for the replys!! I was hoping someone may have dealt with him before and had access to a reverse phone book etc. I've actually had more fun with just calling him randomly at 3am in the morning (free phone calls), asking for my 3 Million dollars. I did try to bait him a bit but I'd rather just harass him for now as he's quite funny on the phone when he gets angry.

If you like him when he's angry, then try baiting him for awhile, maybe from a fresh email account. Mix in some confused Twisted Evil

phone calls in the middle of (his) night to get him to explain things... which you always get wrong anyway (remember, it's always his fault). At this stage of your baiting career, things will probably go farther if you bait relatively straight. And the farther they go, the angrier he will get when things eventually go completely pear-shaped.

By all means, bait safe! I don't know what you mean by 'free phone calls', but make sure you can't be traced. And keep us informed Very Happy

I'm in Australia and if you dial 1831 before any number it makes the number private. Anyway I don't really care anyway about him tracing it what could he really do? its not like hes going to complain to the police!! Nor does he know who I really am. Unfortunately the sound quality isn't that good most of the time so I'm not sure how a recording will go but I'll try.

Certain people would advise you that the scammer may have associates in your area and may have his associates visit your home if he gets any of your personal information.

I personally still don't care because 1) even if I were to use my actual phone number, reverse lookup resolves to Sprint and no further, and a scammer would need a court order to go any further, and 2) if an unknown person shows up at my door I have a wicked knife at the ready at the least, and a handgun at the most.

However, there are some very, very paranoid people here, and I'd advise you to take their advice into account and take every precaution to mask your actual identity.

It's not as much a matter of paranoia as it is a matter of personal and family security. Lads have been known to show up at a home or workplace.

Having lads calling you day and night with death threats is probably pretty scary, if not just plain annoying, and some of these guys are well organised and rich enough to track you down by that phone number if you tick them off enough. The paranoia is healthy. Never allow a trail of any kind to lead back to you. Seriously.

Actually I can picture that!! I work in a Real Estate office and we regularly get say 6 Africans comming in wanting to rent a 1 Bedroom Apartment. We also have a 3 Bed House on our books rented at the moment that apparently has 12 of them in it. These particuluar ones are always wearing suits when they come in to pay the rent after work so we think they must be scammers of some sort as they do not have real jobs to our knowledge. Or they could just be well dressed refugees living of welfare.

Regarding personal security, there are a few people who have said they are not bothered about a lad turning up, and we have said OK, fair enough. One was a serving police officer, who pointed out the lad would have to get in line behind all the perps he had put away over the years, and another was a guard in a prison. These people are used to being on their guard all the time and know how to protect themselves and their family. Even so, it could be embarrassing and scary to have a lad turn up either at your home or at your work. How would you explain it to your wife or your boss? What's the chance you could continue baiting thereafter? A lad on the doorstep is fairly safe; he would just want to talk, and if you were quick enough not to give the game away then you would tell him there was nobody of that name and he would go away. If he meant violence you would be more likely to get a Molotov cocktail through the window in the early hours of the morning, or maybe he'd just smash up your car or leave a turd in your mailbox.

Well hes now got the shits and won't talk anymore after hanging up on me half a dozen times or so to the point where he won't answer any private numbers. At the very least I've hope I made him suspisous everytime the phone rings. I take my hat off to you Mr Choy Chong Yip I've never laughed so hard in my life. I think I'll give me a couple of weeks then try to bait him properly.

Anyway I was hoping there would be a nigerian version of this www.greypag.es

Also is it possible to make a collect call to Nigeria? as I've been unable to find a service that does this from Australian and secondly is anyone aware of any click to call services that will accept nigerian numbers?

SkypeOut can call Nigerian mobiles. The minimum investment is ten Euros, but a single call tends to come out about one Euro.

It can not call the +44703... UK personal numbers that a lot of the scammers use.
