I am new to this and as I was making an email transaction to sell my things, I realized that I was dealing with a scammer. By then, I had provided my name, address, and my tel number for the supposed "certified check" I was t receive. I want to bait him, but since my private info is out, I think it's too late. Can anyone help or give me a suggestion? |

Tell him that you are sorry but the items sold to someone local and they are no longer available. Cut off all contact with him using your real info. Set up a new baiting account with gmail or fastmail.fm, wait a few days and bait him under your new baiting persona. |

Stop all contact immediately, these guys are criminals and as you've doubtless read here, often entirely without scruples of any sort.
If you can set up a false email address and find a way to bait him with entirely fictional details then do so by all means, otherwise there'll be another scammer along in a minute to bait, or join in some of the massbait threads, they're fun and very educational
Welcome, read the stickies, bait safe |

How about you set up a different email, and contact him suggesting you've bought the goods from the first person (your real identity) but would be willing to sell some to him.
Then, if he ever contacts your real identity email again, you can wash your hands of him and tell him to deal exclusively with the second person. |

You want the lad to have no way to link your baiting personal with you in RL. |

How would the second person explain how he or she knows about the almost transaction of the first person with the scammer? Not a good idea since that puts the real person in jeopardy if the scammer gets teed off. |

You must post the original scammer letter with the email address. It is against the rules to post just the email address.
On the fake check, shred it. No one is interested in it because they won't be able to find the lad anyway. There is a great deal of things that have to be done in order to build a case against a scammer. |

Most people just keep them.
Since it has your real name on it, you may want to instead bring it to the attention of the bank. Most large banks have in-house anti-fraud and anti-forgery teams. Call the bank first and ask if they'd be interested in a fake check you've received from a scammer. If they are, ask the best way to give the check to the bank. Emphasize that you don't want to deposit the check and that you have not deposited any checks from scammers before. If and when the bank asks you to deliver the check to them, write "FAKE DO NOT DEPOSIT" or something like that in the endorsement area. All of this caution is because there have been a few people who have tried to turn in fake checks to the bank and subsequently gotten in trouble because the bank accuses them of trying to deposit the check.
edit. As sheboppe said, keeping or shredding the check is probably the best option. Some banks are trying to track down forgery rings and fake checks are useful to them. |

I would love to post his email address and his emails but I think I want to figure out a way to bait the lad before I provide that - just in case the lad can read it here |

I'm sure anybody interested in baiting Cyberfun's lad could PM him to get the lad's address and original email. |

Folks,
Am new here, and have done the same thing as cyberfun. I though someone was interested in an item I had for sale on a motorcycle forum. Anyway, I did use me real name and address and have received a check for an amount WAY over what I wanted for the item. I also have a name and address to ship to. I will read as many of the stickies and follow this thread to see where I need to go from here. |

Welcome here,
You best stay away from any bank with that check although it might initially clear they can come back within 6 months and take the money out of your account again, charge you for forgery and some minor disruptions of your normal life. Best avoid all contact with the sender, do a credit rating for your self to make sure they don't go further without informing you. These people are criminals and accidents have happened. If you can change email addy and never respond to them again. Destroy the check or write void on it and keep it as a souvenir of something that might have gone really bad.
Check the scamWarner.com for more info on how to protect yourself.
I'm sorry it has happened, but you caught it ontime |

Thanks TS ^^
Hey viggo2008
Do you want to get even We can show you how you can "milk" you new friend from a nice distance and safe for millions of $$ in false checks. His idea was to have you pay the difference in real hard cash and have the cops turn on you when they find out. The check you're holding with Void on it I hope, has cost this friend time and money, the forgery has to be good enough to fool victim and bank teller. Now if you decide that you want to get even or worse Some tips here. go introduce yourself to the gang Then have a mentor, they're free and handy and if you want to specialize in checks, we have a few good ones, with $ millions of false checks linky to get a mentor And to keep you busy while waiting linky something to read while you're waiting for your mentor:)
my motto, destroy the scum, while having fun |

Rock 'n Roll Guys!
Thanks for replying. I will do all of the things you have suggested, including introducing myself and getting a mentor. Good lord, this can be fun! I wish I would have known about this site earlier! |

Welcome again, it didn't get you down and you're willing to work at it, that's the mentality we're after
It will be a relative slow process until you can pull off stunts like a 1 month safari or a trophy picture made to order, but then, some are faster then others. The main thing, waste their time and money, have fun and stay safe.
Read lots, interesting and knowledge is power, you are in charge, so there can't be any pressure from your new "best friend"
Have fun and if... just ask, we're here to help each other. |
