RL has delivered a nasty blow and I'm likely to be too busy to post/bait.

My mum developed abdominal pains Saturday, admitted to hospital Sunday.
CT scans etc have shown ( as I suspected ) tumours on her liver, with a primary site elsewhere.
We're waiting on biopsy results to get prognosis/treatment outlook.

Not looking good so far.

Sorry to hear that Nanny. Be thankful the problem has been identified so the correct treatment can be organised and Think Positive! It sounds glib when you are still dealing with the shock of a cancer diagnosis, but I can tell you from personal experience that keeping a 'glass half full' outlook will help you and your mother enormously. Good luck, and never give up.

I'm sorry to hear that Nanny. I'm a month or two down the line from you; my mom was diagnosed with a brain tumor in February. Wishing all your family all the best.

My sympathies to you Thud and your family.

Thank you all SO much for the well wishes.
Mum had her biopsy this afternoon and is back on a drip, doped up with morphine. So she's very sleepy but pain free.
Having been a nurse herself, then a lecturer in nursing and lately a medical proof reader she is more informed than most about whats happening.
Strangely Mum hadn't mentioned having been in nursing to the staff. Rolling Eyes

^^My heart goes out to you Nanny. I got back from work today to find my uncle has been diagnosed with prostate cancer so I know how scary it is to know a relative is ill.

After a weekend of hit and miss with pain releif, mum now has morphine on iv line.
They were trying long lasting tablets but as she keep being sick it's not much good
Heard this evening that the wifey in the next bed has developed MRSA.

My Dad was diagnosed with prostate cancer a couple of years ago. It had spread to his pelvic wall and the docs were saying his time was quickly running out.
2 years later, he's just completed a tour of the world and even climbed the Sydney harbour bridge!! Apparently the cancer is now contained and he could live his life until old age catches up with him Very Happy

The big C doesn't always mean the worst.

My sympathies-my Mom's mental and physical health deteriorated very rapidly a couple of years ago.She had lost the ability to both walk and speak,though we determined she was both aware and cognicent of her surroundings.She like your mom,had been a nurse,and actually taught ER nursing at the hospital she wound up in.I told the nurses there that she was a nurse,and about her background.When they went to see her,they spoke with her on a different level,and though she was unable to communicate well,I really think mom appreciated it.Tell them about your moms nursing background,if nothing else they may be able to share some professional humor or something.Best of luck
