I think it's because a lot of men think that they're smarter than they really are and thus are easier to trick because they assume they can't be fooled. Given that men of that mindset wouldn't seek advice, they're doubly vulnerable.

In the IgNobel prize book there's an entry on a study that proved that the truly incompetent/stupid not only don't realise that they're inept or dumb, they think that everyone else is stupid (just not them).

We 3 (me, meself and I) almost fall for an extremely good lad, 3 years ago. He went then by Marcus Whit3 alias. Have been extremely sincere with him, told that I have no cash to spare, then I got the "You are obviously not ready for this project.Thank you" thingie. That was one major clue. And his african accent, when we talked on the phone.
As far as I know, he was the smoothest lad up to now. I am not easy to fool, but this one almost got me.

@Yastreb, I had heard of that too. It is a surprisingly powerful effect that you can see in action on The Weakest Link. The weakest contestants there do not have a clue about who is the best, even with the immediate feedback.

It also means that if you do not know plumbing, electrics, car mechanics etc. then you are incapable of judging which tradesmen do a good job, and more importantly you are unaware that you are incapable of judging.

My immediate supervisor (who is also the president of the corporation Embarassed

) is a man of great intelligence, drive, ambition and vision.

Having said that, when I helped him move his suite of offices two months back, I came across a WU receipt for �850, with copies of emails addressed to a woman in Lagos complete with flight schedules, etc.

When I got to an email where he addresed her as "my Queen", I read no more. I was sorely tempted to bait her myself, but let it alone.

In my case the gender issue is moot, but "she" hit a nerve somewhere, and he had the 850 quid....

If you don't want to confront him face to face...try leaving a few written clues around the office. IE Letter from our surplus forum...a link to Scamwarners...or here.

Just put them somewhere where he is bound to see them and get his curiosity riled Wink

^^^yep, I made a few casual references to all the scam spam in my corporate e-maibox; also mentioned the "sick-mother-in-the hospital-can't-get-out-without-the-dosh" ploy (his "Queen" was in that situation).

I think he sussed it Wink
