How do you kill fake bank sites

Could someone please explain how you manage to kill bogus bank and other web sites? I've posted one in that forum but I don't understand who here would have the authority to do that. Does this not require the cooperation of the ISP? Who has the pull to get them to pull web site and what if they refuse? Thanks.

Short answer: we send abuse reports to the hosters of the sites detailing the fraudulent nature of the site, with links to the evidence. The hoster checks it out and suspends them.
Sometimes it gets trickier than this though. Wink

Unfortunately, you can't explain how to "kill" fake sites in one short sentence. Yes, it requires the cooperation of the ISP. Killing a fake site involves gathering evidence for a report to the ISP asking them to remove it. I've just started learning how to do it myself (and got my first flag!) Cool

OK, thanks for the replies and my question was answered. The first impression, based on comments in the forum, was that someone on this forum was able to kill the web sites and that is what prompted the question. All it really is, if I understand correctly now, is a mechanism for reporting fraudulent sites to the responsible ISP. It still requires the ISP to actually take action. In the case where the ISP is uncooperative, tough.

That's a little simplistic, as there are possibly a number of organizations involved in putting a domain on the 'net and we can contact some (or all), but basically you are correct.

There isn't someone here with a big switch who can just turn them off - we're good, but not that good Laughing
