UK based scammer????

I think I have a scammer from here in the UK. Original mail came from [email protected] which traces back to somewhere outside Leeds.

Readnotify.com traced the second email address he used ([email protected]) to Wokingham.

The postal address he gave me is

2314 Coventry Road,
Sheldon,
Birmingham
B26 3JS

Which appears to be a genuine address.

Could it be that our scammer is based here in the UK?

The address he gave you is a doctors surgery - just looked on google

It is well known that 419 scammers work in the UK, and indeed in Europe, the USA and from India to the Far East, even Japan where a member here was involved in getting some arrested.

Though it poses no major risk, it does reinforce the concept of baiting safely and that some scammers can be quite well informed and smart - though not as smart as us , of course. Very Happy

Humm. I'm just wondering how to proceede with this. so far i've told him that i can't speak of the phone because of an injury I got in 'naaaaam baby and i can't send him my passport because I'm not photgenic enough for one.

How accurate are these IP tracers? I've got plenty from the headers in his email but they all give different locations.

Scammers come from all over the world, and it is no uncommon to be baiting a scammer that is right there in your own city. As Gomer said, bait safe. This is done hiding your identity using the various techniques described in our forums. Very Happy

If he is in this country looks like it could be a possibility to get this lad arrested if i play him right. I've told him I'm un the USA and I've given him a K7 number. I also use googlemail. Now to get thinking.

This is very hard. London is not exactly jumping up and down to arrest them. There are tons of lads in London. Try getting your lad to meet you downtown in front of a webcam somewhere.

I can't imagine Dr NJ Goode will be too chuffed if one of his staff/cleaners/tenants is using his business address as a scam drop box.

Alas the Birmingham Serious Crime Squad (made up of Gene Hunt x many) was disbanded (some might say rightly so), but I used to know a copper in the SCS who might have taken an interest in this kind of thing.

Getting lads arrested is a noble motive, but it often takes months of work and a mountain of evidence, far more than you're likely to get with even the straightest of baits. Unless he makes a series of very stupid mistakes mate, you're unlikely to get enough on him to make an overworked police force raise an eyebrow.

However, as others have said, there's more than one way to skin a rabbit. He doesn't have to get away with it. You can give him hell with a well thought-out bait. And if he makes those mistakes, so much the better.

Some are accurate, but it depends on which IP address you're using... as you say, there are often many in a header. Usually, the last one is the one you're interested in.

Post the header here and I'll look at it.

He's tried calling my YAK number and it has come up as withheld and not unaviliable. So I'm still thinking he is in the UK somwhere.

You're right Brick, he's in London. It's common for UK lads to withold their phone number when they call, they seem to be a little more phone savvy than their African brothers. Either that or they're more paranoid. I see it a lot when I'm taking calls.

Seeing as I live about 8 miles away from many of the UK lads, I always try and be extra careful when I set out to p**s them off royally.

He's gone quite of recent. I'm struggling to come up with a decent bait for this one. Any ideas?

If he's gone quiet, you might poke him. You just sent him, a couple of days ago, an e-mail containing some vital information that he wanted. Why the heck is he taking so long to reply to you? Smile
