Well, I am new to the forums as I just learned about this today on the foxnews.com web page. I thought it was GREAT what you guys are doing!

I used to work this type of crime years ago before was employed by the state. These crimes are rarely solved and if they are an arrest is even more rare. While I am no longer assigned to working this type of crime I have a general bad taste in my mouth for these criminals.

I am joining your group because I know the chance of making a case on this is slim to none BUT if I get lucky and one shows up all the better! That will be one for the trophy room for sure!

With that said I am going to go about this as any other user would, but I will still keep good records of IPs (just in case).

I have started already by replying to 4 emails I had in a very old yahoo account. They were within just a couple days old so I hope to get a bite.

I was going to post the original and my reply but I didnt know if I should wait for an answer. What is the general MO for posting the baits around here? Right away or only after a reply?

I will close by saying.... THANK YOU to the make of this site! Maybe this will prevent someone from losing everything they own.

Welcome to the party.

Please remember to bait safe. As a member of the law-enforcement you surely know that you don't want to give the bad guys a trace to who you might really be.
Thus, if that account you are using there has any personal information, or can otherwise be linked to you (through use on other websites for example) you should drop the lads and rebait from a new account just created for that purpose.

Please take your time to look around the forum and read the stickies. You also might want to consider getting a mentor to help you with your first baits.

So, grab a seat, have fun and do your worst.

Regarding posting ongoing baits, you can post yours in Publish Your Work, or Main Scambaiting. If it is a love or romance bait, we have a Love-Romance scams forum that you can post it in. The good thing is that you can post updates by editing your message. If you need help, PM me and I'll be glad to assist.

The forums contain all kinds of great information. Each bait is different, so you will probably run into similar baits on here.

Thanks rootuser! I used an old account that was created for spam and stuff I didnt want to signup for using my real email so it is pretty safe. I am also away proxy use. I actually have been roaming the site today looking at a lot of the sticky post.

I am open for suggestions for a mentor...

BTW I may have some friends from work joining in the coming days/weeks. They got a kick out of all this at work today when we found the web page. Heck we may need our own support group! LOL

Thanks for the warm welcome! I have debated changing my name so people wouldnt know I was in LE but I havent made up my mind yet. I worked on cases like this in the past as I mentioned and it was SO rare to solve one. I dont see this as a bother to LEO operations. I will be doing this in my off time so I dont get in trouble with work.

As for the legal questions I will answer them to the best I can. Keep in mind laws are not the same everywhere. Feel free to send me a PM if you want to talk about that.

Just leave the name as it is, we now know it anyway, so changing wouldn't really help Smile

You already have all the advice needed to start your new hobby, read lots, knowledge is power in this game and as far as I know there are a number of Leo's here already.
Maybe add a little sig where you can offer help in case of doubt for members here? I like to stay on your site of the line with the game, but sometimes I wonder where that line exactly is in this gray area of guile and deception.
Is there an internet task force that works on these cases when victims complain/press charges ?
