They always say that they come in threes. All in a day we've had Arthur C Clarke, Anthony Minghella and Captain Birdseye die.

Wow, he was an early favorite of mine. I got very tired of all the sequels he started churning out (what was it, something like fifteen books in the 2001 series?), but he created some true classics and memorable stories.

I need to go read "Tales from the White Hart" again now.

He will be missed,

He was the only Science Fiction writer i could read and enjoy, he made his writing's believable.

I agree with iMike. I remember trying to explain a Clarke orbit to my physics prof in college. This guy was just like the Wizard of Oz and I enjoyed his presentations. When the instructor could not fathom a geosynchronous orbit, I stopped enjoying him and it became just another class to endure.

@iMike - I agree with you, 3 of the best. Many of the things that they wrote about is the early days of Sci-Fi have come true. Robotics, computers, and going to the moon. I also miss Carl Sagan who brought the universe into our living rooms.

They all are missed. Sad

I've seen this on the news today, and although I never read his books I have been inspired by the movie-version of 2001.

I am sure that with the 90 years he spent with us he had a rich life during which he touched many people through his writings, or like me, through their adaptations for the big screen.

He surely will be missed.

AFAIK that subsided after ACC denied ever making the comments in question and the paper printing the allegation didn't pursue the issue further - implying that they knew they'd goofed.

[I had problems googling for this as the first links offered led to the David Icke website - and those boneheads have no idea what evidence is!]

Yep--the charge turned out to be bogus....it turned out to be someone trying to blackmail him, but found out that AC had nothing to hide--and could prove it.
