Scammer Emails! - How to stop them?

I am not interested in baiting these idiots. I just want to know how can I get them idiots to stop sending those annoying emails! I just send them an email cursing the hell out of them! HA! HA! I do appreciate your website. After all, I couldn't stop laughing when I saw those pictures of them with the signs, etc. HA! HA! Thanks so much for the laugh! Keep at it!

The only way to help stop them is bait them.

Or just delete the e-mails.

It's rather hard to stop it completely. Unless you block all emails except for say your contacts list, then some will get through.

Train your spam filter. Set up filters for the common names and organisations.

Cursing at them won't stop them, but it might get you a friendly death threat or two

You can't really stop them arriving once they start. If you can deal with the upheaval, I reccommend switching to google mail which does a great job of keeping the spam out, if it ever arrives in the first place.

I hear that replying to some only lets them know that the account is active and results in more spam. It sure seems that way in my baiting accounts, the scam emails seem to breed.

A really great bayesian filter that will catch them reliably is CRM114. But setting it up isn't easy and you'll need a UNIX box.

What others said, or if you can change your email address, that would stop them, at least until you posted your email address somewhere.

Some ISP's allow from three to ten email accounts. Changing your email address is as simple as deleting your current email address, creating a new one, then notifying friends and family of the change.

If yours is web-based, do the same as above.

I always put them in junkmail,and some times I'll check it to see if there any thing worth looking to,and also repot phisher in hotmail and also I unsucribe to them,try it

All that does is show them the account's active. See if your email account will allow you to bounce the emails back, making it look like your account doesn't exist. Some will let you do that, some won't.

Get a spam filter and make sure it rejects any emails with the following words/phrases....

Cocoa merchant
Seasons greetings
Hello Dear
Mirian Abacha
Charles Soludo
Barrister(Barr.)
Microsoft Lottery
Trunk box
Yellow tag paper
Alluvial gold dust
ATM card
Cancer sickness
My father took me special
Abidjan
tsunami
Twin Towers
Concorde

That would kill a large percentage of them. By just responding with abuse you are just encouraging further rubbish as they know your account is active.

If you don't want to bait them you can always do your bit by posting them on the Surplus Letters Forum for others to do so.

The only way to get this to work is to set up a 'white list' for your email. A white list is synced with your contacts and only those people you have on the list are allowed to email you from the accounts that are in the list.

Kind of a pain to administer but it works.

I've always been pretty impressed with Gmail spam. It seems to filter it pretty well.

SpamAssassin (also available for Windows) does quite a good job to filter out their mails. It basically marks everything as spam that talks about lots of money, is allergic to expressions like "Dear friend" and common stuff like that.

I found that a good way to stop them is to go on a bloodletting rampage and kill every single scammer in the whole world.

It's taking me a while though.
