Been talking for a while with my Hong Kong friend (from Nigeria with a .hk yahoo account). Neither of us has trimmed the Subject line for 2 months so its now at

That's not Mrs W@n Y0ngh0ng is it? (I may have that name slightly off, as I am not at home) I just started a next of kin bait featuring a Hong Kong banker who is really in nigeria and 'she' is using a .hk yahoo acct. |

I have received an e mail from a gentleman in HK who has $30 million for me and it quotes 4 different .co.hk e mail addys for reply hotmail and yahoo). Do you think this could be from Nigeria and if so, how do I tell? |

IT really doesn't matter whether it's from Nigeria. But you can check the IP in the header if you want. The process is different for different clients, but once you have the IP address, go to www.geobytes.com/iplocator.htm and paste it into the box. Sometimes it's accurate, sometimes not. |

Mine showed up as alternately nigeria and South Africa. I used that as the reason that Western Union stopped his payment. The payment was for London but "Some lowlife from South Africa" was trying to access it so for risky free security reasons it was cancelled by WU.  That was a fun weekend, so many CAPITAL LETTERS, so many !!!!!!s.
@Casual Occurance - Mine goes by the name Zh1 M1ng with his buddy Barrister J1n D0ugl4s (E.sq). M1ng's still quite friendly and encouraging but the barrister's not happy and won't talk to me anymore (I lost all the money gambling in Reno) . Funny that they use the same IP address. |

Two things of note in this thread...
1. The suffix on free web-based email accounts is not necessarily an indicator of where the user is located. .hk and .uk seem to be the most popular amongst lads and spammers these days.
2. There are lads of all races, genders, and religions in all countries - or at least, very nearly so. Nigeria definately does not have a corner on the market for scammers.
