I just read online brett farve is going to be anouncing that he is retiring after 17 years of football. I have lowered my fackers flag to half mast.
he made football so much fun for me, one of those players that played not for the money or that fame but for the love of the game. he will truly be missed, |

It's a sad day indeed. But it's better he retire now before he's completely washed up. I always find it sad to see once great players still out there way past their prime and no longer significant. I will always love him for spanking the Cowboys in the Superbowl that time. |

Well I'm talking about back in the 90s about beating the Cowboys in the Superbowl. Like '95ish? |

Edit because I was wrong
Green Bay beat the Panthers and 49's in the NFC Championship game. to go to the Super Bowl two years in a row. Dallas beat them the year before in the NFC Championship game. |

Men in tights - that's just not right (unless your name's Robin Hood)
Have to admit I like the packers, though - only non-profit team there is, which is nice to see. Sport is business these days.. |

Brett Farve...retire??? Nah! He did that last year, and came back. He'll play. He has a really good team, and they have another shot at winning it all next year. Unless the management doesn't want him back, he will play. |

Tis a sad day in Cheeseheadville. I have mixed emotions. I want him to go out while still the best QB in the world, but still I would love to see what he can do for the team next year. His agent said something like "nobody on the team asked him to leave, but nobody asked him to stay either". I will really miss the "Gunslinger".
EDIT to add:
Quote: |
Favre's agent, Bus Cook, also learned of the decision Monday.
"Nobody pushed Brett Favre out the door, but then nobody encouraged him not to go out that door, either," Cook told The Associated Press by phone from his Hattiesburg, Miss., office. |

Being a resident and lifelong"Cheesehead"/Packer fan I can say that I am happy he left after such a remarkable year. People at the office today are whining that he only won 1 Superbowl and he should come back...blah blah blah. First off, he went to two straight Superbowls, won 3 consecutive MVP awards, and was perhaps one of the most entertaining quarterbacks to play the game.
Dan Fouts, Dan Marino, Fran Tarkenton, Jim Kelly, and the VERY underrated Kenny Anderson NEVER won a Superbowl and they're in my top 10 of all time QB's.
Brett will be missed without a doubt, the media coverage here in Wisconsin will be quite nauseating...with good reason though. It's not often that we have had one of the best in all of sports here; not since we had traded Kareem-Abdul Jabbar to the Lakers in the mid 1970's...different sport yes I know... Some would argue Reggie White was a legend too, he was but we inherated him when his "legend" already existed. Brett started his and finished his run here...I'm forever greatful. |

It took me a long time to like Brett Favre but I really loved him at the end. Enjoy yourself, Mr Favre....you've earned it. |

I grew up a Chicago Bears fan (more of a Colts fan now) - so it's in my blood to hate everything green and yellow. But there was just something about Favre (how the hell is that pronounced Far-ve anyway) that made him special. He wasn't your typical arrogant "me me me" sports figure. He seemed like a guy you could walk into a bar and have a beer with and just talk about guy stuff. Very down to earth.
Now I hope that for this season and many more to come, the Packers follow the Dolphins after Marino retired and just suck suck suck.. |

Aye, sad day but we mostly knew it was coming at some point and time, but the shock won't wear off for a few days!
I don't really like rogers but we'll see what he has to offer. |

What I always enjoyed about him was his lack of ego. Good play or bad he was always smiling and laughing on the field. He was not one of these prissy prima donnas' that grace the grid iron all too frequently these days. (Yes, I am looking at you Randy Moss)
See you in the Hall of Fame Mr Favre. |

As someone who has met brett a couple times that was the whole thing about him... he was real, a totaly down to earth nice guy the would talk to anyone and treated you as a frend, even if he just met you. it was never about him, it was about the game and the fans the records just came along with his love to play the best he could and and to do good so the fan were proud of the TEAM not him. |

Some young Packer fan just wrote this poemnot too bad for a young girl.
Sorrow of a Packer Fan--II
(To Brett Favre, Wherever You Are)
It's all around the sports stations,
it's on the radio
people talking in the streets,
it's everywhere you go.
"Can you believe it's happening?"
"I really didn't know."
"You knew that it would happen, now
it's time to let him go."
So thank you for the memories
and thank you for the throws
that no one in their right of mind
would make, thanks for the shows
of honesty you gave to us,
the years of laughter, too.
Thank you for bringing tears and smiles
Wisconsin misses you.
Kick back, relax, and play some golf.
You've earned it through the years
the endless games of freezing snow
the shouts, the cries, the cheers.
We fans are all in mourning,
but somehow we'll get through.
The NFL has lost its best
and days are very blue.
Although, if you should so desire
You can always un-retire!
