I've had a few scammers turn up in my regular mail accounts, and I've written back to them using a gmail account. But they never seem to reply! I don't include the quoted original message, in the hope that a "I'm interested" kind of message will get their attention.

I'd be particularly interested in baiting a few of the romance scammers which have popped up a couple of times recently. Either that or they're actually real normal girls who are afraid of replies to the email address they send the initial message out from Laughing

Including the original message does seem to help. Most of my baits start from a different account than the one that the mail originally arrived at.

Scammers mass mail their formats to thousands of addresses at once. They will have no idea if a particular respondent was on their original mailing list or not.

Create a gmail account same as your regular where you got the letter.
I have done this numerous times. The mugus don't seem to notice Cool

If you are after the romance vlads, tell them thanks for the message at (insert seedy website address here e.g. mybelovednet), that you've seen their profile and you liked it, and you're emailing them as they requested.

For really setting a vlad at her ease, I like to use a scuzzy sluttish yahoo or hotmail address. Gmail is what your average vlad uses, and for good reason, it's a good mail setup with risky free IP stripping... if you use gmail you run the risk of putting them off.
That's purely my own view mind you, you'll hear others reccommending Gmail, so it's a personal choice. I've never had a vlad fail to reply yet though.

Not if they use The Bat! it doesn't. You have to switch that option off to send and retrieve your emails from an external program.

If you're looking for romance lads, you can skip email altogether and say hi to them on IM instead. It doesn't work with vlads tho. Very few use IM.
