I've played I and II, and am waiting for the third, patiently.

I could never do it as completely dark side, though- I don't have a problem just offing bad people, but killing a couple of hundred just takes the fun out of it.

Wing Commander- yes! That was the game series. Back on DOS, when you had to tweak your RAM to get the game to run well. I was crushed about Hobbes...that traitorous bastard. Sad

I tried Privateer, but never really got into it.

How could I have forgotten Elite. The original on the BBC Micro. The Disk version had mining lasers but no asteroids, whereas the tape version had asteroids but no mining lasers. The auto-docking computer could get you seriously dead.

@Snerd - have you played the other Bioware RPGs? (yes, i know they didn't actually make KoTOR2) I just finished up Mass Effect last month and it was incredible. I can't wait for the downloaded content to come out in a few weeks

@budanzig My best friend was a huge fan of 'Fallout', but I just couldn't get into it. The Never Winter Nights games didn't do anything for me, either.

I haven't looked at Mass Effect, though, so I may give that a shot.

I suck at vidio games. so i play stuff like that and mahjong, or thinking games ,action games where i have to be good and fast with my fingers i cant play to well due to hand injurys. thay dont work verygood.

@Snerd, Fallout II is great and Icewind Dale is well worth a look too.

@Rodus- I enjoyed Icewind Dale and leveling up, but it was too linear; It was also too easy to clear the rooms by sitting back and casting devastating area affect spells.

I know; I'm too picky.

^^As a RL RPG'er tend to agree with the linear problem but cest la vie, if you want non linear then MMORPG is the way to go and I won't as I refuse to pay a monthly subscription. Hence my attempts to get an eater Diablo 2 group together. Come on folks, pm me if you're interested.

I'm with you about paying.

There are some free servers out there that I've been curious about, like Guild Wars, but just haven't tried; I've never done the EverCrack thing. I figure that once I start paying, then I'm telling my wife that I have an internet problem. Laughing

@OD im currently using a fatality motherboard, nvidea 8500 GT 512mb graphics card and soundblaster Xfi pro.
E6420 dual core, 2.13ghz oblivion runs smooth, and thats about the most intensive game i can think of for a test lol.

I used to love Elite, pillaging passing spaceships in my Fer De Lance.

After various flings with Tombraider, Doom and GTA spinoffs I eventually lost my saved games for one reason or another, and can't be arsed to start again.

One of the only games I actually finished was Castle Wolfenstein 3D, I think I ended up having to kill a giant robot Hitler with caterpillar tracks or something historically accurate like that. Rolling Eyes

Nowadays I try not to tell my biker mates that I unwind by driving a virtual steam engine on the Settle - Carlisle line, I have an addon for MS Train Simulator that puts you back in the 1920's, on a super-detailed Midland Railway.

@Snerd, if you liked KOtOR then try Lego Star Wars 1 & 2, great gameplay, hours of longevity, good graphics, excellent musi......... stuff it, Snerd, it's got lightsabers. Very Happy

Wow, Elite IS a great game. I remember playing it on my ZX Spectrum clone. I played the sequels (Frontier Elite and First Encounters) on various platforms (Amiga, Atari ST and PC).
Those had some bugs though, probably because they were rushed.
Being an avid collector of old computers and consoles I got me grubby hands on 2 Acorn BBC model B's and an Acorn BBC Master. I have to try Elite on the computer it originated.

If you can find it, the Master version has asteroids and mining lasers. Whereupon you find out two things. Mining lasers are crap in combat, and you can't make a decent profit mining asteroids.

Wotchit, you might find 25 yrs old Elite disappointing, if you are used to present day graphics.
If you want to see something that's close to Elite, you have to find X2 or X3.

I do have one of those unique video game systems that I can even phone calls with ... maybe it's called a phone with too many downloaded games. On car trips, plane trips, etc., it's nice to have them. Usually puzzle and word type games are what I like.

I just recently played the Myst series, *confession* most of the time with walkthroughs, except for Myst IV Revelations. Can only find it in the internet. tho; and the one and only time I used my card for an online purchase, my number was swiped and someone racked up $700 worth of gambling--so i'm a tad gunshy. Thankfully MC phoned me right away, issued me a new card and did not charge me the $700. Yay, MC--watching out for me: priceless

I am presently having a GBA renaissance Smile

Doom, Dr. Mario, Speedy Gonzales, GTA and Donkey Kong play damn well in bed nowadays as they did 5-15 years ago. Thankfully, now with background lights.

I should have kept my first 486 to be able to play Commander Keen, Frontier Elite and Corncob 3D again Crying or Very sad

Wolfenstein was fun (ahem! As Doom1, it was not supposed to be sold here.) Embarassed

I played some Castlevania on the GameBoy, many many years ago. But never was a fan.

As said, my big love died when the Ultima-series was over. And no, Ultima Online does not count.

@Rodus: I still have a Diablo 1-character (actually two, one warrior and one mage) with lots of gold and heavy weapons (deadly spells for the mage, once killed my ex-gf by accident) somewhere slumbering around.
I never really got into Diablo 2, don't know why.
During Diablo 1-times I often enough have been asked "Clan?" and I always "Naaaah!" I liked playing online with others and helping them with money and magic, but never wanted to bond.

By the way, there are free MMORPGs, like the good, old Tibia, and ManaWorld.
