On a lighter note, has anyone played the Witcher? I just started and have found it addicting even though the loading times are bothersome as they are slow particularly for a PC game.

I've tried the Witcher demo. It was ok. It took a while to get used to the control scheme as I'm used to the mouse killing Diablo style of combat for RPGs.

Heheheh, I was raised on the console so if there's on thing I never got used to during my transition to PC gaming, it was using the mouse and keyboard. In fact, the only games I use the mouse in are MMOs. Otherwise I use a Xbox 360 controller/Logitech Rumblepad 2 in conjunction with the Pinnacle Game Profiler to play everything, even the Witcher. When I play COD4, I am better than most people who play with keyboard and mouse, lol.

BTW, I took the World of Warcraft plunge today.

With you being a soldier, when you next get a Taliban bullet zipping within inches of your Kevlar, and hear the promised thud of an 81mm mortar landing within 50 feet of you, you'll probably lose all taste of video combat games. They kind of pale into insignificance somehow compared to actual contact with an enemy who's holding live ammunition..

I'm not sure of why that is, I never really worked that out. It just happens.

I got a new job today, so I am gonna be saving up for a new laptop with a 8800M GTS. I want the GTX but, I lack the time required to save for that.

Wow. Your gaming rig is quite good. Especially compared to mine.
Athlon X2 4200+, 2x1 Gb Kingmax DDR2 800, onboard GeForce 7050 (I stiil miss my old GF 6200, it was quite good) , 250 Mb Seagate SATA II 16 Mb cache.

Hafta fork out the cash for a GF 8600.

unfortunately, i spent ~120 $ on me consoles last week.
But i got:
1 Sega Megadrive 2, 2 controllers, 1 game
1 Nintendo 64, 1 controller, 1 game
1 NES clone, 2 original controllers
1 Playstation 2
2 NES, 1 Sega Megadrive, 1 SEGA Master System games
I must have died and gone in Heaven... All dat stuff for an avid collector like me, and in a week time.

I like RPS games like the Baldur's Gate series (dating myself) and KoTR; I'm patiently waiting to see if they come out with another one.

I also like the FPS and strategy WWII games; The Civ type games annoy me, but I really loved 'Colonization', and the elevator sim.

I really enjoyed Air Warrior back when it was AOL, the Aces over (of?) the Pacific games, and a game which I'm drawing a blank on, but involved dog fighting in space against evil felines.

KoTR? isn't that KoTOR? I mean Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic?
And that game you do not remember the title probably is Wing Commander, space sim fighting a feline race called Kilrathi.

I also loved the two Knights of the old Republic games. I hope they bring a third part.
It's actually the only RPG I really like, beside the Ultima-series.

Here's my PC (mostly I play NetHack, in DOSBox or on Windows here, since the free ATI-driver for Linux does not support 3D yet, and yes, I'm aware of fglrx, but I ignore it):
AMD64 X2 4000+
2G DDR2 667MHz
ATI Radeon X1250 onboard (currently with 256MB shared memory assigned)

My notebook (which lost it's Windows-installation due to decision):
ThinkPad R60e
Intel Core Duo with 1.6GHz each core (but sadly it's the model without virtualization-support)
1GB DDR2 ?MHz
Intel 9xx onboard (but as it seems with it's own memory)

As I have currently no 3D-acceleration on Linux on my PC I have to either stick with games that don't require that or fire up Windows to play.
The GPU of my notebook has free drivers and thus here I can play games like Nexuiz, OpenArena, Tremulous and all that funny stuff which need 3D-acceleration. But it's too slow for Doom 3 and UT2K4, I tried.

Good stuff, those KotOR's.
Too bad the second one was rushed. Liked the game, but there is something missing. Maybe the maps they did not include.

Never played them 2 games as a dark side user.
I even wanted to buy the X-box version of Kotor 2, without owning that game console yet. Thought I'll find a PC emulator for it.

The one and only game I've ever played was Leisure Suit Larry in the Land of the Lounge Lizards

That was in 1988. I used it to relax while I was writing my master's thesis.

I even got the hidden extra point a few times.

WOW! That was one of the first PC games I played! A bit later than you, though. in '91 first and then replayed from time to time.

Make sure you still own an actual copy of the game or that would be piracy. also the chances of a completed and fully functional emulator for the Xbox is very slim.

I certainly am. I'm actually running Vista 64, due to an unfortunate accident when trying to set up a dual-boot with XP. A slight misunderstanding between my eyes and my fingers caused me to extend the existing partition rather than create a new one for Vista. Embarassed

No XP, only Vista now.
