I'm a bit of a TC fanboy so I'm delighted that version 5.0 now offers full disk encryption and I can take my laptop out without being paranoid about someone stealing it and getting all my private information.
Also I found Double Twist which will let you sync your iTunes songs to any device by converting them to MP3.
If you don't know what Truecrypt is, take a look at www.truecrypt.org

It's funny. I've always been more worried about someone online hacking my computer and stealing all my private data. That's why I have two firewalls and three antivirus programs on my computer. But I have minimal physical security. Typically, I have my computer on standby, and it doesn't require a password when it comes back. I used to use the bios password, and my login/root password was 39 characters long, but Mom/Dad needed to know the password so they could make sure I wasn't doing anything I wasn't supposed to be doing( ) and they didn't want to remember 39 chars so they made me take it off. I usually just take a flash drive to school anyway and leave my laptop at home. I trust most of the people in the area I frequent, so security isn't that much of an issue to me. I even store some stuff in the open on the network drive. Admittedly, it's not private data, but still.
TC looks interesting. I may use it if I do anything I shouldn't be. |

Truecrypt really is a nice tool. But I never use it.
As I work with Linux I prefer Cryptsetup-LUKS. It might be a bit harder to use (no GUI), but I prefer it anyway.
Also, is it possible to boot a "truecrypted" partition? I know it's quite easy when using Cryptsetup-LUKS, because it's based on the Device-Mapper in the kernel.
Anyway, neither my PC nor my notebook have an encrypted filesystem. But still I think most thieves won't be able to use my hard-drives. Not because their formatted with ext3, but because I'm using LVM. |

@hacker9: Having more than one AV installed will eat up resources and it can/will pull up false positives and they will interfere with each other. Also running more than one firewall could also interfere with each other, I did read something once that said running two firewalls side by side could less effective than having just one.
@rootuser: There is no way to boot an encrypted partition without using a password. |

^^ I know, that's the way it's done with Cryptsetup-LUKS, the question is if Truecrypt offers this. |

You can boot a TrueCrypt-ed partition (see the documentation), you just need to give it the password.
And I'm using AVG, Avira, and Comodo, comodo being a combination firewall-antivirus, in addition to the default Windows Firewall. Avira got the highest rating of free antivirii, and I figure what it misses hopefully AVG will catch. I have plenty of resources. |
