ITV Tonight with Trevor McDonald have done a great documentary about nigerian 419/love scams, which you can view online if you install their iplayer thingy.
Go to: http://www.itv.com/Watchnow/CatchUp/default.html and search for "to catch a love rat". Nice to see the mugus get busted! I was amazed to see a picture of one of my mugu pets appear in the program! I really hope it was him who got busted finally! |

I cant watch the ITV link because of hardware inefficiencies or NoScript being too strict on me again.
I have been able to view a recording of the two parts and they are nicely made, quite infotainment and with a focus on the victims feelings.
The presenter interviews victims, police officers, EFCC officers (who are subtitled ), travels to Hawaii and France to meet the actual dressmen aka male models whose pictures have been stolen for a scam, and witness the actual cafe raid in Nigeria. He manages to ask a few questions to the very scammer of the victim above, but you get to know nothing, no name, no age and if he was arrested after the team sailed away. (Well, it is only MY opinion that maybe NOT...)
Apart from that, absolutely NO info or even a link given to the people who have done the hard anonymous background work. You hear nothing from the scam baiting informants, 419Eater, RD or others. Nothing. Only a few sentences at the last minute of part 2 about how to avoid being scammed generally, given by a police officer, thats all the education you get.
Its well made and entertaining to watch. |

Wayne was interviewed as part of the shows background material but it did not make the broadcast
The dating site protesting how they keep out scammers was a little bit biased, who here has used that particular site as a hunting ground and with what results??
Have to agree that what would have really improved it would have been show where to look online to sites like this, RS, RD and some others.
There was a fleeting screen shot of RS in the first show but no more. |

Once the bait is over IMHO you should publish in an open forum or even when you have a few generic mass mails that cant identify your baiting persona -
Prevent the scammer making $$ from victims and that is a real victory, every single thank you from a victim your post alerts preventing a scammer making $$ should be considered a trophy too!!!
One such place is
