This might be a very silly question and of course being a newbie here it might be plainly obvious, but how do you know when you go to a dating site or whatever that these people arent just innoocent people looking for love?

In short, you create a bad profile... you know, no photo (or very ugly photo) I'm a goat breeder, my personal hygeine could be better, 48 years old, live with mum and dad... that kind of thing. When a beautiful 23 year old person approaches YOU saying they liked the look of your profile, you probably have a love scammer.

Search out Murry Guru's excellent Love bait eater university lecture, there is a step by step guide on how to spot them.

Lots of reasons. It could be the fact they use a photo that we know is stolen from a modelling site, or it could be their opening statement shows up in google. It could be the email address they give is already on blacklists. It could be the words sound "Scamglish". Of course it could be the fact they commented on how handsome you look when your profile photo is of a horse's ass. The truth is, after a while you can tell right away if it's a scammer or not, and if your profile is offputting enough, 99.9% of the replies will be from scammers.

The Romance Baiting FAQ Sticky is also very helpful. As mentioned by Mugatu, with a suitable profile you will be swimming in scammers in no time. Let them do the work and find you instead of the other way around.

Read all of the stickies, get a mentor and bait safe. Welcome to Eater.

You need to understand the basic traits of the two major groups of romance scammers, nigerian and russian.
You need to be able to check email headers.

You can't blindly 'bait' people you find, or find you on a dating site.

If you confine your fake profile to sites that are known to have a majority membership of scammers,it's easy. Set up a minimal profile in the target range....middle aged, dumpy, no pic needed. Real people usually won't be interested in you. You don't need an elaborate profile.
Middle aged, US/UK, Male or female that's enough

@ Jadee1 A love scammer is when a scammer picks a victim online an fancy you after when they get the victims trust, the next bit is the scammer will ask you for money not in big amounts first only in small amounts, then they would ask you to wire the money through western union, once the money is sent to Nigeria to the scammer you cannot every get the cash back, unless if you can find who your Nigerian scammers are you can send them to the high courts an prosecute them for Advance 419 feed fraud, if you get a scam email always report it to the police, and the banks.

The other reason that you know they're out to scam you is when the letter opens with -

Quote:
I got your e-mail on a dating site

- and you've never put your details on any such site.

Scorpion Snake; it's not all to Nigeria. All the love scammers I've received are Vladettes from Russia (AFAIK). Also - I doubt that reporting a scam email to the police and banks would get you anywhere.

@yastreb, yes that true I suppose but they just give out empty threats right but one thing a scammer can do is nick you ID an use it for theft, best to keep your personal details best kept secert.
