As usual, I'll make this clear from the start, THIS IS NOT A LAD WEBSITE. Iit is a forum for those living in Nigeria to discuss all sorts of topics. So please don't troll there.

Disclaimer out of the way, this is an extremely interesting website:

http://www.nigeriavillagesquare.com/board/

It's a general forum for issues affecting all Nigerians, but there is quite a healthy amount of discussion of 419. Unfortunately I can't spot a search function, but amongst the general threads you'll find stuff applicable to what we do here.

It will also come in handy for those wanting to play a lad in their own Dolla chop baits, there's plenty of discussion on local customs, traditions, attitudes, day to day problems in the country, and plenty of scope to see how some Nigerians express themselves in the written medium.

I'm aware 419ers operate out of other countries, but I thought this site may prove useful to anyone baiting a Lagos lad.

Enjoy.

You can always google using the form 419 scammers site:nigeriavillagesquare.com for anything that's not behind a login. I find it's usually better than the forum search functions anyway.

Damn, beaten to it ^^^

Interestingly, all (so far) of the comments about 419eater (put site:nigeriavillagesquare.com 419eater into Google) are positive - and very negative about 419 scammers.

Some posts are really quite eye-opening, such as

Its suits the West to portray Nigerian 419 as if we are the originators of international fraud. Little or nothing is ever said about how Western corporations and banks assist our despots to loot our money and resources.

I've never had much sympathy for the Western victims of 419. The 419 letters are so daft that only a ***** or an extremely greedy person can fall for such ridiculous propositions..

Bo, any American who falls for this kind of scam fully deserves what he gets.

Most interestingly for me, they complain of 419 scammers attacking Nigerians..
Quote:
Two weeks ago, I received an e-mail from a cousin of mine who resides in Makurdi. The subject of his message was "Fought off 419 crook today". He had just received a phone call from one James Olotu, supposedly a resident of Ibadan. The mythical James Olotu told my cousin that he had just returned from the USA with two Nokia cell. phone handsets which I had sent for my cousin. The two expensive hand sets, he claimed, were being held at Nigerian Customs in Lagos. To have the two sets released by Customs, my cousin had to send him twenty-six thousand naira (N26,000.00), payed into a bank account at Ibadan! This James Olotu added that as soon as he got off the phone, a Customs officer at Lagos would call my cousin to confirm what he (James Olotu) had just conveyed to my cousin!

Of course, my cousin knew right away that this was a scam in the making. When the mysterious "Customs officer" called barely five minutes later, my cousin told him to keep or sell the two Nokia handsets and send him only ten thousand naira, by Western Union! That was the last time he heard from the con man, "James Olotu" and his "Customs oficer".

The immediate lesson here is that these scams have reached even the towns that had, until recently, relatively remained "untouched" by 419 and its consequences. Another lesson is the need for public awareness. I keep reminding members of my family to be always on the look out for potential 419 criminals.
