A friend has just got a new desktop and broadband. He is using a Compaq with Windows Vista.
We managed to sort the bb connection out (Karoo) and IE initially loads OK. However, when we try to load a different page we get a run time error...
C:Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe.
(This sounds like a pretty fundamental error to me!)
I have tried various basic stuff like clearing cookies etc, re-booting with no success. Short of installing Firefox from a disk, as we clearly cannot access the website, I'm not sure what else to do. Any suggestions gratefully received. |

I do a lot of setting up of broadband systems for domestic users. I shudder everytime I draw Vista. I hope you can follow this, it usually works for me, but I haven't struck the specific error you mention.
What you are looking for is "User Account Control".
One way of getting there is:
START
SEARCH (type User Accounts)
Turn user account on or off Opposite to how you found it.
The famous Vista prompt "do you want to continue" pops up Answer Yes
On the Left hand side of the screen there is a box "User Account Control"
UNTICK this box and exit
PS If you have Nortons, use it as a frisbee. Vista is for geeks |

Thanks for the help. I will try both and if all else fails get him to download FF from disk, which I would recommend anyway.
Could Norton AV be causing the problem? It came free for 12 months. I use AVG and don't have problemswith it. |

If you can get exploder working the next step is DL Firefox, Opera or both. Then never open Exploder again!
You can always DL Firefox portable on your machine to a thumb drive and then use that to DL the "regular" version of Firefox on to your mate's computer. |

Tommo, does the error message say
C:Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplorer.exe
or
C:Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe ?
The correct file name for internet explorer is iexplore.exe, without the 'r' before .exe.
iexplorer.exe is dirty spyware whould should be removed.

The first thing to try is loading a "clean" IE. Start->Accesorys->System Tools->Internet Explorer (no addons). If that works without any issues then pop into add/remove programs and uninstall any browser extensions the ISP thoughtfully included. |

Thanks all for all the advice. The problem appears to have been some sort of conflict with Norton AV which is now sorted, and my friend is now up and running in IE. All I need to do now is convert him to Firefox. |
