How would it help [break] the ice with new members*? Being shunted off to some chat thingie would teach them what we do here and help them assimilate into the forums, how?

At other forums I've popped into, the formation of a chat room has led to a big decline in posts.

Most importantly, chat rooms are the dens of those that speak that "LOLZ LMAO OMFG BABE U R SOOOO LIKE KOOL?" sort of language. I like the fact that the eater is populated by nice, well spoken, intelligent people...

I know the eater is a bit hard to get into, it is a big family. I found it a bit hard anyway, there was a lot to take in, but you know what, I think it was worth the little effort.

This isn't a chat room, a social forum, a place to hang out and impress others

It's a working forum for people that work together against people that are criminals, with all that that connotation brings with it

If what we do slows then down, causes them to doubt a real vic for asking questions, then what we are doing works

We don't need a chat room, filled with OMG, FIGJAM etc

Better to have a working forum that we all call into and see, and learn from

I'm with irishemigrant on this.

Not a chat room, a social forum or a place to hang out and impress.

If it did, it would sooner or later get filled with 12 year olds where we would need to dust off the old AOLer Translator (http://ssshotaru.homestead.com/files/aolertranslator.html for the curious) or God forbid, we could have a rodeo with some lads in the chatroom.

Final Boss, I understand where you're coming from with your idea. But a few people talking on Skype outside the site is probably the best way to go.

I find it pretty interesting, that you folks talk like this about a chatroom (like the one we have on skype) where you didn�t even spend one minute in. I can assure you, our Skype chatroom is nothing like this. And the people in the chat are active baiters who are also active in the forums. And there is no such "LOLS LMAO OMFG BABE" going on there. Wanna know why?

I wasn't referring to your skype chatroom Breadcrumb, I've never seen it as you rightly say. It was my observation on every chatroom I've ever been in. Which let's face it, do tempt the LOLers and the love lotharios in from every corner of the planet.

I appreciate that with skype you can be much more selective.

The Skype chat room does have its advantages, if you want to run a multi-person bait, and need to find a couple of volunteers, or need a quick answer to a question it can be done there.
Not to say that the help forum here isn't the best place for Q's and A's but there are times when I've found a need for a quick answer and got it there.

Most of the conversations revolve around non-baiting matters rather like the general chat room here, it saves clogging up Eater with general chit-chat.

Your best option, as Skype is free, is to try it, use it if you like it, log out if you don't.

Another huge plus of the forum format is that posts are searchable so any useful or fun modalities or information that arises is available to all, not just those who were on the chat at any one moment.

Funny you should mention that...In any skype chat you can search for words that have come up over the time you have been away and it immediately finds it. The history lasts for months. Smile

@ OP. It's a dangerous idea.

On this forum, any discussion about baiting can be thoroughly moderated and examined. The questioner will be left in no doubt about the best path to take.

You just don't have that option in a chat.
