I think Mugatu said it best. My hat is off to all baiters, and while I do like reading the spectacular baits, and hope to make some someday, any time wasted for the lads is time well lost.

I love this, and I really love seeing all of the experts previously listed work their deep magic. Hats off, of course, to Mr. Shiver, both for his pioneering work, enormous resume of baits, his inspiration and for making this place possible. That tip of the hat is extended, also, to all of the mods, too.

What I am really enjoying is the teamwork I have seen here, multiple baiters working a bait in a coordinated fashion, be it a mass bait (bike insurance guy was my first good bait) or watching the crew of top form baiters work an 3d or an Ik3.

$imbas vapour safari camps, the many bogus shipping companies (HAHAHAHAHA), the endless forms, passport applications, psychological testes, sudoku MTCN code games, the ITV5 and EZtrakka, Eeee-stirn Union, etc, etc, etc, and the various phone pimps, like Mugatu and Homer J Fong, all provide great services for baiters, and are excellent tools for wasting their time, and fine examples of a cooperative community at work. I think I like that the most, the coordinated efforts, and that is what I look forward to doing more of.

Of course, 419weasel is the greatest mentor that ever mentored....

Also, dr stephen williams, on the teamwork. That is amazing. Right now over on the annoyed check lad Slap Happy, myself, Sir Cumference and some others are proving very slowly to a lad that the Eater team will find you and do everything we can do to keep you off real vics.

^^and a fantastic love baiter mate. So many people bait and don't publish, maybe cos they don't keep the exchanges, maybe (like me) they are straight baiters and a lot of the time the bait is very uninteresting. If I want hilarious safaris then jojo and SP, fantastic trophies, Shiv and great love baiting then wayne but everyone here is great just by doing this and we all have our skills in different types of baits. I don't think there is a 'greatest baiter' just a lot of dedicated people.

There is no such thing as the "Greatest Scambaiter". If there was, it would be a shared honour amongst every baiter here.

^^ I agree also, that it is a combined effort of everyone here that is "The Greatest." I continue to be inspired by everyone here, from all the old timers to the noobies. Every day, I learn new things, am highly amused, and see the efforts bearing fruit. Very Happy

Yes, some of it ends up in a trophy bait, but most of it doesn't. I applaud all the baiters here for every contribution they make for the joint effort.

I thought hard about contributing to this thread, as I still feel more like a guest here than a full member with "threading" rights.

Having said that, I think asking this question (and following up with "I think...." and "but what about....") is a bit like walking into a room of Nobel Laureate scientists and asking them who they thought was the best scientist was, or asking a gaggle of supermodels who's the prettiest - a little presumptuous and naive.

It's the sort of question best asked when Eater has died due to 419 scams being stamped out, the internet is a safe place (i.e. not in my lifetime), and some old members are reminiscing in their bath chairs about "who was the greatest".

I'm glad that the majority of the responses have demonstrated appropriate decorum and restraint by not playing the requested game, and I don't intend to change that. There are so many here that I am in awe of (when I'm not laughing out loud at their published work) that I would not presume to choose one above the others and, as has been said, there are probably as many unsung heroes who do not publish, but help waste lads time and resources and keep them squirrelly.

Having said that, I think that kudos should go to Rover and the site team who kept this place up and running, bobbing and weaving, whilst under the recent DDOS attack from what some internet commentators breathlessly described as the greatest threat to the internet known to man, capable of taking out hardened government sites. For what is essentially a volunteer site, not specializing in computer technology (but not underestimating the talent who belong here) to be able to withstand this sort of assault, flying the defiant home page with the "until hell freezes over" message (and still doing the day job) was truly amazing.
All of us here owe a huge debt to those guys and gals bow_down

KD because he scambaited Shiver into giving him Mod status, so KD must know how to bait successfully.

Truthfully I think that we shouldn't point fingers and give praise, instead we should view this as a mass group effort to combat scammers.

Here's my two penneth, for what it's worth...

I came here two years ago today, I read the stickies, and the published baits, and I wanted the trophies. Surely if they can do it I can too, can't I?. Wrong! It takes a great deal of patience and social engineering to achieve the carvings fish/panties on the head and morris dancing trophies. I learned by my mistakes and carved my own niche..a bit of this and a bit of that.

A lot of noobs come full of high hopes and when they don't get the trophy and get dropped after three emails they lose heart and disappear off the radar, never to be seen again.

My vote goes to all those that stick around for the long haul and find their own niche, be it straight baiting, safaris, check lads, romancers, bank murderers, phone lads, whatever.

^ With you on that Tommo - it's definitely a long-haul game, this, and those that stick around, doing stuff behind the scenes, i.e. endless dull emails, without a great trophy or glory are to be praised.

However, if I define 'great' as 'entertaining' and I was only allowed to pick one, then I have to tip my hat to Yea Whatever, and the subsequent YW/Big Worm/Jojo combined efforts that have kept me crying on my keyboard! Outrageous safaris, pyramid building, trunk boxes floating in the currents... you couldnt' make this stuff up! Laughing

My vote for best baiter? each and everyone of you. everyone who ever has or ever will bait a scammer. wether you have bait one lad or 1,000,000 lads. your all here for the same reason... to protect the the masses from slime. the young, the old, man, women ,child, in your own country and in others, and not for the pats on the back but for the protection of others. not to get rich but to make the wicked bad people poor. and to share a laff with others like you. the way you have a close community and work together for a common good weather its actively baiting or sharing ideas on how to do better. for that i say CHEERS beers!

for you all are MY greatest baiting heros. (wiping tear from eye)
P.S. i hope someday i get the guts to actively bait.
