platys aren't the only venomous mammals... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Venomous_mammals
but they might be the only ones in the US LOL
At least we now know how they get there.
Re the exGF comment, most of the others are shrews..... hmmmmmm.......
octopodes is technically correct but octopuses, octopi, and even octopods are acceptable due to common useage. The American Heritage Dictionary goes so far as to define octopi as "A plural of octopus"... IMHO a dare to go find the other ones on your own.
I don't know how intelligent platys are, but only the males have venom, so look out if fluffy has difficulty with his/her sexual identity. |

The venom appears to have a different function from those produced by non-mammalian species: its effects are non-life threatening but nevertheless powerful enough to seriously impair the victim. Since only males produce venom and production rises during the breeding season it is theorized that it is used as an offensive weapon to assert dominance during this period. |
Offensive weapon? Naaah. It's probably Rohypnol they're using. |

Yes. Even if he says nothing in the forest, he is still wrong.

No, no, no. The Common Platypus only lives in Australia. The American Pygmy Platypus lives in rivers along the east coast of North and Central America, although its habitat is shrinking due to extensive development. |

Thanks. I didn't know that.
I've also checked your baiter name and no thanks, I don't want to be sent $12,500,000 for a small transmission fee. |

I'm not knocking the OP, we had platys in the stream at the back of our house in Victoria, I'd spend hours of an evening in summer watching them
I'm thinking his/her/it geographic location may be different though |

"Its". I'm not sure what I am, but whatever it is, I'm grammatically pedantic.
Unconfirmed rumor says I'm female, though. |

Use my credit card? absolutely, in fact keep it. (Thanks. I'm sure it's at the credit limit since you just bought a plasma TV, computer, three different video game consoles, big rims for your car and the multiple visits to the strip club.)
You can never have too many shoes darling (Yes and you shall never forgot or complain about it. BTW, I'll ignore the condescending voice tone.)
Starring? I was thinking how hideous she looked compared to you. (Hideous? Yeah, right. She's so hot I was staring at her too.)
Bum? Big? You should be a model. (The second half of that statement is "...for The Plump, But Pretty Catalog." The couch is that way.) |
Mod edit: I made 'Pump' into 'Plump', since this is what I'm sure you really meant. I didn't want the others to pick on you, and make me have to suspend them and lock this thread. TS
EDIT: Thanks TS. You're my hero of the hour. |

I've been looking at your pictures of wee Fluffy and I think what you have there is a Marag Fabulosus.
These lovely creatures are native to Scotland but have now spread far and wide.
There have been reports of them being sighted in New York recently.
See The Scotsman for more information
I have had a few lads looking for them in Africa as I would really like to set up a reserve there for the wee beasties. |

Do any of you ever stop to wonder what the hell you're talking about? (especially within the confines of a platypus thread) |

@ Tsnerd
I did notice the name.
I think Fluffy is perfectly reasonable name for a platypus
or a haggis |
