I'm sure he can afford it. JC came into our office building a couple of months back and was taken to the bank upstairs. The bank in question won't give you an account unless you're SERIOUSLY rich.

He didn't get scammed, so much as shown a lesson in humility... He was being an arrogant know-it-all and got taken down a peg or two.

I say he wasn't scammed as the money was donated to a diabetes charity - he could probably ask for it back, but won't because that'll end up with some real negative press.

Serves him right, in my opinion. He did exactly what you're always told not to do, and what nobody with an ounce of common sense would ever do.

However, I am not happy he was scammed, no matter how much of a "butthole" he is. In my book, no one deserves to be scammed.

He did it deliberately - serves him right for being a plonker.

He wasnt scammed he was "proven wrong" when he added his information he was saying basically "hey world theres all my information you cant do anything even if you do have it - prove me wrong" - therefore no crime was committed - he freely gave the information and some bright spark took the opportunity to donate it to charity - that at least shows the intent wasnt for personal gain or criminal activity - therefore not scammed.

But now he does need to worry lol - someone else might use the information for something quite different.

I have to disagree, although he published his bank details in a national rag, it doesnt mean that anyone should be able to use that information to withdraw funds from his bank account without his knowledge or permission. It's like sending someone a cheque and because that cheque has your account number and sort code on it, you accept that there's a good chance someone can set themselves up a direct debit out of your bank account. It's outrageous. Where's the protection from the banks, where are the checks in place that it was him setting up the Direct Debit? Apparently due to the data protection laws, the bank is not allowed to tell him who set up the direct debit out of HIS bank account.

Nah, although a bit of a twat, he's not a fault here, it's the banks. Evil or Very Mad

Meh - he doesn't seem overly concerned.
I'm sure the charity will have offered to return the money. Frankly, if you lay a challenge down expect people to respond.

I doubt JC will lose too much sleep over it - he can claim it back as expenses when he becomes prime minister - believe the petition on the Downing Street website calling for this is now over 30,000 Laughing

Good on him. He was proved wrong and came out and admitted it. He can afford the �500. It'll probably cost him more than that to re-secure his identity, and pay him more in fees for promoting anti-identity-theft measures.

It's not like he went sueing the guy who did it.

Then again, this is kind of the fault of people that are not strict enough when dealing with bank transfers.
