She left Houston on New Year's eve for a 1-2 month trip to Africa to marry a Nigerian man she'd only met online.

The story takes the slant of a woman, a Katrina evacuee, being cruel to her children - which she was - but we all know this will end badly for the mother as well. Sad all around... Sad

Horrible story. Where the family moved from (New Orleans) or where the mom was going to: (Nigeria), is irrelevent to the fact that the mother is a complete loser who doesn't deserve the priveledge of having children. And notice, no mention of the damn father (s?).
The article just kept mentioning more and more kids the further I read. The woman needs to be sterilzed before she keeps having more kids to not take care of.
And of course, I bet she'll be really happy with her Nigerian husband. Rolling Eyes

^^I posted a message and like I said there, she is more than likely going to get the ultimate sterilization. I would place money that she will be raped and killed in Nigeria and no one will ever know. A sad yet somewhat fitting end. The kids will grow up with emotional issues also and possibly repeat the cycle, it is very sad all around.

Its storys like that, that just make me ill. we talk about to 419 scum but we have our own scum here probly 6 kids by 6 fathers and she needs help and some love scammer promest her the world she goes thinking it could be the out for her. leaves the kid thinking "they will be fine, ill only be gone a short time" in the mean time she probly lossing more or even her life, but the real victims here are the kids.. because they have a IDIOT for a mom

Very sad story indeed, but now that these kids have the attention of the authorities, they have a far greater chance at decent lives than if their piece-of-shit mother stayed with them. I hope she gets what she deserves with her new "husband".

I heard that on the radio this morning. Tragic that this family already lost everything, and now their mom, too.

The trip to Africa was only the latest in a string of bad decisions this woman made. As usual, the kids suffer. Perversely however, the kids may be better off without her. While it's no picnic being a ward of the state, at least you get fed, and it's unlikely the kids could be more abused than they were.

It might be a bit late however, considering the amount of procreation already done. I do hope the kids get looked after well and go onto something better.

This has made big news in Texas. Sadly I find it ironic that she can pay for internet services and probably phone calls to the Nigerian guy but she can't feed her kids. Parenthood should be licensed!

Well I have to say this, having been a foster parent and adopting our son through Texas these kids will have a much better shot at life. Simply because their mothers rights will be terminated becuase of adbandonment. Hopefully there is another family member somewhere in the family that can take these children if the father is not in the picture. If not Texas CPS will take custody of the children and attempt to find a sutiable adoptive match for them.

Texas really steps up to the plate and takes care of their children in their care. Going forward they will get good medical care, all the assistance they need in school and offering a total college scholarship for them once they graduate from high school (which I am very grateful for with the cost of college being what it is today!!).

With all that being said it still amazes me today that anyone can have a child but for me and my wife to get our foster parent license we had to go through 90 hours of training, have a home study done where they look into every aspect of your life doing background checks of both your personal life (they ask you all kinds of questions about your sex life probe your relationship) and criminal checks (which is a good thing). Just becuase we want to help children in need.

Right now we have 2 kids in care who are 3 and 5 and on January 19 we will have had them for 2 years, and the parents today still do not have jobs. The mother will not get a job becuase she has 2 children already taken away from her by the state of Ohio and if she gets a job they will take 300 bucks a month child support from her paycheck and the father will not get a job becuase if he does he will lose his 650 bucks a month SSI check. They live in a rent controlled home, get assistance for heat and electric AND THE WORST PART they have had 2 more children while we have had their 2 boys in care. Children services cannot get custody of the 2 we have because they are doing just enough so the courts cannot terminate the parental rights.

So what do you do, keep the kids in care long enough and hope the parents screw up bad enough so the courts can get custody of the kids.

But at least those kids in Texas wont have to deal with their piece of shat mother anymore.

Sorry for ranting.... but it is people like this who get my blood boiling how can you have kids and simply dispose of them like they are nothing....

^ Scatbreath, I am not sure I understand what you mean by that, would you mind clarifying?

@ SPAM I hate the fact that any kid should have to face going through foster care, because it usually means something bad has happened in their lives to put them there, but I am glad that your state seems to be on the ball concerning the welfare of the kids "in the system". I lived in one state, years ago, with a system that was so messed up that there were some children they lost track of!

But seeing what they have been through already, it would be hard-pressed to find a WORSE situation for them. One thing that might be rough is if the kids have to be split up. I do know that in a lot of cases they try to place the children together if possible.

I read that one of the kids is as young as one year old...the younger ones should have an easier go of it than the older ones, who will always carry memories of what they endured early in life. I just hope they can make the best of it and not repeat the cycle.

As far as the "mother" (biological egg donor) is concerned, I have no concern for her. I do feel bad for the kids, who will probably love and miss their "mother" even though she treated them like shit.

That woman is a United States American citizen, living in the US state of Texas. Granted we have our share of poverty too, but that is no excuse to treat your children in such a way as she did. She left them in horrible filth, no money for food or diapers, leaving a child in charge of children, while she runs off for some man she never met, on another continent, with no thought to her duties as a mother.

Such crimes are inexcusable regardless of socioeconomic background and are not to be tolerated.

While the mom is obviously a useless waste of protoplasm, am I the only one wondering WTF is up w/ those neighbors?

Who leaves their 2 & 3 year old kids somewhere where they don't know the conditions inside the home? Children 2 & 3 years old tell everything, if he didn't even bother to ask what they did all day, I find it hard to believe neither at least mentioned they were hungry b/c they hadn't eaten b/c there was no food. That's if the father even bothered to pick the kids up after so kindly giving the mom a ride to the airport. Wouldn't he at least want to meet this alleged sister? It doesn't hurt to introduced yourself, get a look at this stranger who is going to be responsible for watching your kids. But this is the same dumbass who left his toddlers w/ a 15yo already caring for 4 kids alone like that wasn't a recipe for disaster. Were those children removed too? That guy's judgment is clearly questionable.

Then NONE of the other neighbors noticed all those kids were home alone for 3 days? Especially that stupid next door neighbor who appeared to be a font of information. But they did manage to leave their homes to get there name in the paper. How heartwarming.

At least someone cared enough about the condition of the garage door to to get over there to see what was going on. It sounds like the family had some level of contact w/ CPS since the 15yo knew to call a child advocate. Plus 2 kids are delinquents & the 16yo seems like she's running wild anyway. Sounds like a situation where authorities were or should have been at least somewhat aware of what the situation was like before the unfortunate destruction of the garage door. At least they are somewhere where they will be fed on a regular basis, but the odds aren't with them that they will live happily ever after. They have suffered so much other trauma already & probably have no experience with parental control or living in a non-dysfunctional home. That will be an adjustment for them.

My utter disgust with humans as a species & my general theory that humans sux is now strengthened. Thx for Frozboz, I love it when I'm right, which is the only warm fuzzy feeling I get from this entire disaster.

Did any articles post a pic of the piece of crap???

I used to work with foster kids in a certain state. I'm all for sterilising some of these 'parents'
I worked in a group home for foster kids who were too difficult or impossible to place, and no...not the ones with handicaps.

Most of these 'parent' were total scum, and still popping out babies while 3 or 4 previous ones were in custody already.

Many would leave the state and leave no forwarding address.

Some of the kids were allowed weekend visits with the 'parents'.

They'd come back with tales of drugs, booze, multiple boyfriends, or never seeing the damn parent all weekend!

As f@#$@ up as many state institutions are, any is better than growing up with crap like this.

My 9 year old was living with his Mother and two sisters in rather appalling conditions. Even with intervention from Community services and at one stage all the kids put in foster care due to a legal technicality they where placed back in her care. I then spent 3 years in court. During the court case he was placed in my care and has stayed ever since.
Unless someone is actively campaigning for a child the problems are easily missed.

This isnt the first time a mother has left her kids for a romance - as shocking and disgusting as it is that some people dont give a toss about there kids it happens far too often.

The isnt any excuse for her actions, as a parent her kids should have come first no matter what the reason there is nothing she can say or do to explain her actions - really she should be punished for what she did to those kids.
Her being scammed is one thing, dumping her kids to run off with him is an entirely different matter.

And as said 2 wrongs dont make a right.

Looks like a HUD house to me so the owner is probably getting lots of money from the government to house the family there. Hurricane Katrina and Rita help put a lot of money in people's pockets.
