Internet Harassment Advice needed....

Still baitiing away, but need help on an unrelated internet matter...the short version:

In "real life", on several blogs and forums, I use my real name (as do most people who post in this field do).

For almost two years now, I've been accused on-line of being involved in a fraud involving cash donations; I answered the accusations honestly, and provided proof I was not involved.

Things went along alright off and on until just before Christmas, an email directed me to a LiveJournal posting where an anonymous poster flat out named my name, said "we know where you live", and I was a liar and perpertrator of a scam.

My reputation hasn't suffered too much, but it's still very upsetting to see; the last entry directed people to Google my name, and sure enough, I'm suddenly popular on their search engine. I'm almost certain I know the parties who are posting this most recent nonsense', but they are posting anonymously...

Any recourse for me?

I get mentally deficient nutters like these on a near monthly basis SH. It's easy to say, but personally I would try to rise above it and let their ignorance and hatred ruin their lives, not yours (prodding them every now and then also helps!). I derive pleasure from the fact that my very existence pisses some people off to the extent that I'm part of their every other waking thought Twisted Evil

This very message for instance, is guaranteed to be posted elsewhere and become the subject of derision - oh the irony!

Thanks, Shiver....that does put things into perspective. The fact that two years on these nutters are combing the net and reading my posts waiting to strike is a larf. I think this last one took me by surprise because they were so.....libellous this time Laughing

Perhaps I should put my baiting skills and tools to good use; they claim in this recent attack that I "can't be brought to legal justice" because they can't find out my "true identity" Rolling Eyes

Cor, it sounds unbelievably absurd just reading it now.....

To me, it sounds like over-inflated trolls with nothing better to do. Isn't it sad how some people devote all their free time to ruin someone simply because they are jealous? Laughing

Make them believe you enjoy the attention, act like you are honored by your search engine popularity and say (whether it is true of not) that the extra publicity has brought you a significant increase in positive feedback (or hits or whatever you use to measure success) to make it worth small amount of negative feedback.

All the members of my band have a reputation for being assholes because we dont restrict ourselves from speaking our mind and heckle people at shows. And as a result many bands dont like us and talk shit behind our backs, but it works out in our favor because we are the ones who always get good crowds and we are the ones who are being talked about.

Sometimes its better to get negative press than to have no one know who you are at all.

Absolutely agree; that's why I've kept my mouth shut all this time. I think eventually they will self-destruct, and I'm secretly hoping they'll slip up and reveal their identities some day. Wink

In the meantime, I'm taking shiver's words to heart and reminding myself that (witout any reason whatsoever) my very existence pisses them off.....that makes it much easier to deal with Laughing
