Note to self: remember to match name with header.

I sent out my response to my current mugu (I seem to go through them very quickly) under the name Ann T. My junk e-mail account is regestered under the name Jessica K. As in, "Jessica K. <[email protected]> wrote:". No, it's not my real name, but it's not Ann's name, either.

So Mr. Mugu writes back to me: "Dear Jessica K., blah blah blah..." (italics his) :yikes:

. The letter itself was the ususal mass-assurance, but I'm wondering if he meant anything by the italics.

I sent him an explanation as to how Ann is an actor, and Jessica from The Merchant of Venice was her first major role, and the whole thing is just an in-joke among actors. Hopefully he'll buy it *fingers crossed*

However, this was the first mugu to pick up the fact the my name and e-mail header don't match. Are they ususally that oblivious, or have I gotten a run of unusually stupid lads? (Come to think of it, that may explain why all those guys I e-mailed never wrote back).

Anyway, I have learned my lesson. Ladies and gentlemen, take heed from the mugu-worthy travails of ChainYanker.

If they query it, just tell them you heard there are scammers that can steal your stuff if they find out your real name, so you use your mothers/sisters/teachers name for your email

I keep mixing my email accounts up as well, that's my general reply, they never query it

It may well be a situation where the letter was a script and the italics portion is what he cut and pasted, typed, whatever into his existing script...I really wouldn't sweat that in the least.

They aren't reading your emails very carefully. They just scan them. That's why they 1) don't notice 2) don't care.

As a matter of fact, lads do it to me all of the time. They close the letter with a name that doesn't match the email addy, or the name on the email addy doesn't match the address. For example, I got an email from Peter Walter and the name of the account was [email protected] Wink

Even worse; Dr Fr4nk Sm1th sends me his ID (passport and office card) - both bearing the name Ge0rge Ph1ll1p.

Nothing's happened to indicate he'd done it on purpose... so I'm assuming he's just an idiot.

I just got a great example from a scammer that is mind boggling. Shocked

It's from Mr.Smith BOOG <[email protected]>

headed for the attention of A. nishu reddy and my character is Bertie W00ster

the e-mail is signed off

International Transfer Manager
Somerset Bank Plc
Mr.Mackson Ben

and I am asked to contact

[email protected]

and for some unknown reason it also bears the name

MR.Smith Boog
Chief Legal Consultant
Shell Finance Uk.

even though it is supposed to be from the UK National Lottery

Work that lot out if you can. Very Happy

I wouldn't worry about it, I signed up to my first bait account as 'Sc4mster B41ty', not realizing that it'd show of course, and none of my lads noticed/cared.

If you've got a lot of clowns on the go, and you're working hard getting them to come off - script, you could try the ruskies favourite email client - 30day trial and includes a lot of fancy filtering and auto responders and templates, so you can appear to be off- script yourself whilst automating the slow build up stages to hook your muppets!

My lad addressed me by the wrong name. Calling me Peter Griffin, where i emailed him telling my name was something else. Seems hes to on script or they make those mistakes to.
