There were several names on the list that I wasn't surprised by at all. Gary Sheffield, The Giambi Brothers, Barry Steroids Bonds. There were rumors about Clemens before. I've never liked him anyway.
The only player I've seen on the list that I was really disappointed in was Andy Pettite. Crying or Very sad

I'm glad to see it finally exposed like this and I hope Barry Bonds rots in prison someday.

I'm not surprised by any of the names in the report.

I think that they should all have any award that was given to them during the time that they were taking the drugs stripped from them, and their names removed from record books.

I'm particularly irked by this * nonsense.

I hate the asterisk records too. As far as I'm concerned, Roger Maris still holds the single season home run record and Hank Aaron the all time. Any record with an asterisk is a non-record.

Agree. All of Marion Jones' titles/records have been erased, and the same should be done to the baseball steriod users.

I was not surprised either by any of the names on the list. Everybody kept wondering how Clemens seemed to always get stronger in August and September Rolling Eyes

All of them should have their records stripped.

I have noticed that were ever there is money and fame there is graft.

Heck, where ever there are people there is graft (including scamming).

Come to think of it, steroid use is scamming, it is saying you have something you don't have (musculature/muscle development) and collecting money for it... Shocked

I must be one of the few that really couldn't care less whether these guys bulk up using steroids. I understand that it is against the rules, so for that, it is wrong. I am just of the opinion that it shouldn't be against the rules. It's not hurting anyone but themselves.

And, without getting too political, I think the courts are wasting a lot of time and money on something that doesn't really hurt anybody. If these guys were not famous athletes, their steroid use would not have gotten this kind of attention. While I have disdain for people like Paris Hilton who get favourable treatment for their celebrity, I do not think it is right to give unfavourable treatment because of their celebrity.

That's just my (very unpopular) two cents.

It's about a level playing field. If steroid use is ok, then most players would be forced to do it in order to be able to compete. That's already happening with it being prohibited. I'd hate to think what would happen if it was acceptable. I'd certainly never want a child I cared about to aspire to be a major league baseball player under those circumstances. It cheapens the sport and the records of those players who set the records without steroids.
It's kind of like if you and I were going to have a race and you had a bike and I had a motorcycle. Laughing

How about this? Starting January 1, 2008, any sort of performance enhancing drug is legal to use. All of the current world records in all of the sports remain, and a new, post-drug set of records begins. Then, take all of the drug cheats like that f*** Barry Bonds, and lump them into the post-drug category.

I don't anyone to think that I am pro-steroid. I think they are too often abused. I presonally would never use them. However, there are tons of supplements used today that are perfectly legal, such as creatine. (Or it was legal at some point, it might be illegal now.) Does someone who uses that have an unfair advantage over, say, Roger Maris who did not have those kinds of things when he was playing? There are lots of different supplements that now exist that didn't years ago. And, correct me if I am wrong, but steroid use was pretty much winked at in baseball until a few years ago. I don't think that there was even a rule against it. If there was, the policy of not testing for them pretty much says that they don't care.

I agree that these guys may not be the best role models for children. However, I think steroid use is on a list of very small concerns. I fear the effects of people like Paris Hilton and Britney Spears far worse than I fear the effects of steroid using Barry Bonds.

EDITED to make my post a little bit clearer. I tend to agree with the YW school of thought on this issue. I say just legalize them.

I'm down with that. I think the foolish worshiping of these athletes is ridiculous anyway. Only one problem with your scenario though; it might kind of sorta promote the use of performance enhancing drugs. It would almost make it necessary to take the drugs in order to compete. Wink
