11 days away at the hospital - after a 4 and 1/2 hour operation and 49 metal staples removed today. It looked like bloody hundreds, but I was thankful it was only 49 when she said that's the last one removed.
The op was meant to be 2 hours so I don't know what they did for the missing 2 1/2 hours - card school ? The first epidural hit bone (not funny) and the second one was misplaced, but at least I then got fed liquid Nirvana on demand.
The surgeon did a good job. Now if I want an eagle tattoo with an open wing span I can use the outline he's left across my chest.
Vicodin - paahh ! Kid's stuff - they put me on the liquid oral morphine - in fact they put everyone on morphine the night we had a mad Glaswegian creating mayhem in the ward. He was foul mouthing a Liverpuddlian nurse who had to shout back at him in broad Scouse because he was totally deaf.
Then we met the living incarnation of Victor Meldrew, but laughing made me hurt and I had to grab a pillow to ease it when he started to sound off.
Someone I met in the hospital who said he'd like to join here may be interested to know how Victor's story developed. He left hospital today, the same day as me. |

How should I know what the food tasted like ? I wasn't allowed to eat any. 
I was intravenously fed until a couple of days ago and then went onto liquids.
It was probably a blessing in disguise.
I didn't manage to find any Teddy Bear pyjamas and it didn't matter anyway, because as soon as they unzipped you you were unable to get to your gear and you were given hospital issue.
The main attraction was female student doctors - some who hardly looked old enough to know the facts of life. "May I see your scar ?". When a girl says that and I feel hesitant it shows I must be getting old. |
