I am wondering if I should break it off or keep going with some story
that the names are a coincidence, that (my characters) Dunson and
Garth keep being kidded about their names, etc.

He didn't spot my baiter name (not posted) who is an old Western movie
actor but not nearly as well known as John Wayne.

It's more likely your lad knows how to Google. Just ignore him and carry on.

The Gilat satellite serves west Africa. so your lad is almost certainly from that part of the world.

Could your characters be brothers (with different fathers)? Maybe their mother was a big movie buff.

Personally, I would tell him that such names are common in whatever country you are supposed to reside in. Also, ask him who John Wayne is as you have never heard of him and can he send you a picture of him?

Always throw the sh*t back at them.

If they drop you as a result, rebait with new character and modality.

Your character must appreciate the irony of having an associate with a coincidental name is an object of great humour for those "in-the-know" movie fans like your lad.

I bait with a character named J4ck L0rd, and one of my mugus asked me if I was the son of the famous actor.
I told him, "No, but I get that all the time, the actor was much better looking than I am".

They watch a lot of movies in Naija, I think, and can be quite knowledgeable about the cast. Baiting with names of English footballers can give you problems, too. All of them easy enough to overcome with outraged and confused slappings.

I wrote to Kevin yesterday (Dec 13) but have not heard back from him.

It is possible he looked here (419eater) also, he seems to be rather knowledgable, and his emails have been in good English.

If he'd been here, he'd be likely to do what most of them do: tell you how he's discovered that you are a "jokker" or something. Just so you know how clever he is. On the other hand, he writes a little better than the average. He needs a fairly straight bait.
