Hi all,

I'm new to this site and have been reading with interest about scam baiting.

I was contacted a while ago by a russian calling herself Nastya.

A few details.

-I live in Italy and at first she was writing to me in Italian (in a very formal, old fashion form that nobody uses anymore...).

-The letters were obviously scripted, she even sent me the same letter twice and in one left ______, forgetting to put my name.

-Does this necessarily mean she's a scammer? If a Russian women is genuinely looking for a man and she's doesn't speak good english, i imagine she could still use a script.

-She hasn't got to speaking about money yet.
-She told me her parents died in a car crash.
-She told me that she uses an internet caffe which is expensive.
-She complains constantly about her city being dangerous.
-She has refused my request of a photo with my name even though she's sent me 100's of pictures.

-I'm not sure if I've given out personal details and she has my personal e-mail, so maybe its better I don't use her as my first ever bait.

Before I give out her details I want to be sure she is a scammer and that I won't be giving grief to an innocent girl...

Wayne and Murry are the experts here, but I can tell you DON'T bait from your personal email addy. To find out if she's a scammer, I would create a gmail account with a fake name and email her saying you saw her profile on a dating site and are interested.

If she sends you back different pics, that's a dead giveaway it's a scam. In fact, if she responds with the same form letters again, it's probably a scam.

Most of them take their time to set their hooks in their vics before they ask for money. At least the better ones do.

"road" is a badly translated word, usually meaning love, dear, darling or something similar. The quick n dirty way to look for clues is to post up the email headers. If you look in the noob love bait sticky thread (that sounds so dirty!!!) you'll see directions on how to find headers.

I actually give a mild slap saying I hate cats and so you have a decision to make if you live with me. Most end up with the grandparents.

My opinion is scammer. But then I'm cynical and jaded, having been here awhile now. I make even real life contacts prove to me they're real now!

The instructions for getting headers using both the old and new style Hotmail are in the thread. From what you've posted, I'd say it's pretty likely to be a scammer, but that's only a guess given the information we have so far. If you get really stuck finding the headers, then you can PM me and I'll talk you though it.

The Christmas Edition thing just means it was released - imaginatively enough - Christmastime. Ritlabs do this every year. This particular version was released Jan 11th 2006 and seems to be a bugfix for the 3.64 version which was released Dec 22nd 2005. Too much information? Very Happy

^^^ the interesting thing about "the bat!" is it's a perfectly ligate program.
Lots of scammers well just about all the Russian ones use it.
It looks like it has some great features that we could use.

My intention was to kill off a fake name I set up and had her risponding to and try and get some � out of her for admin fees etc. However, I'm not a good enough baiter to do this and so would like to hand her over.

I'll post up the fake gmail and password if anyone's interested.

There's also this one who's found her way into my inbox, but she only writes to me in Italian... Sure she must have some english scripts too.
