Not 419 related but hoax e-mail question

Hi all,
Have you ever have anyone try and hammer you for being "Holier Than Thou" because you pointed out they were sending hoax e-mails?

I struck this and replied to the person in question, but the thing that got me was with his "Holier Than Thou" comment he said that he knew how to use snopes.com. His hoax first started around early 2001, I get it this year and then they try to hammer me for saying it's a hoax and giving relevant details?????

Oh, those drive me insane!
I usually respond with a one liner.....a link to snopes regarding the hoax and say nothing else.

I don�t know this particular hoax, but I hate those hoaxmails too. Especially the ones that warn you about a virus that sends itself to ALLL the addresses in your outlook addressbook. And then this idiots forward the warning to everyone they know.

One time I wrote them back: "So the virus sends an email to everyone in your address book? And what did you do now? YOU are a VIRUS TOO!!" . Along with a link to information how to spot a hoaxmail.

At least by now the mother in law of my sister first send these mails to me and asks me if this is real or now. I simply tell her it is not and adviced her how to search this herself on google. (I mean, is it REALLY so hard to copy and paste parts of the email and do a freaking google search with it? The first hits on google will show it is a hoax!!) Evil or Very Mad

I like to reply to ALL when I am debunking, and generally I do it with just the link to the relevant snopes page.

Funny thing is Mrs. The Man has a friend that sends the hoax e-mails, and used to send them to me. She stopped sending them to me since I did the reply to all thing, BUT she still sends them out as Mrs. The Man gets them from her!

My father has finally stopped sending them after my brother and I did this to him on every one he would send. Usually both of us would do it to the same e-mail. Public shaming works well in our family Very Happy

Thats the funny part. I replied to all, linked to snopes and relevant Antivirus sites debunking it asking them all to check it before blindly forwarding it, and this guy replied "who asked you."
LOL!

That pissed me off, so I traced his IP from the header, got the ISP, e-mailed abuse@ with all the headers and hoax e-mail, then proceeded to hammer him while I found his domain in the whois database and where the guy lived. (You gotta love people who make domains up based in their own name)

He went strangely quiet about 2 days after my e-mail to his ISP.

My brother in law's ex-girlfriend used to forward me all of the chain emails that tell you if you forward it nice things will happen, or the ones that threaten that if you don't forward it, horrible things will happen.

I finally wrote back and asked her to please continue to send me emails about her/my brother in law, etc. but to please not forward the chain emails any more.
The last one she'd sent had said that something horrible would happen between certain hours which is the exact time both my husband and I were commuting to work. (not a regular commute time either, we work odd shifts). I asked her how she'd feel if we all died because I didn't forward the chain. Laughing

She cried to my brother in law, refused to ever email me again Very Happy

and pretty soon the whole family "knew" that I was a bitch.
She's an ex now, and I'm much happier with the family get-togethers. Wink
