I mailed Kirkens N�dhjelp (a humanitarian organisatation) here and told them that I lived abroad and asked them if they had a donation number that can be reached from abroad. They do basically the same stuff as the Red Cross.
I got a mail back with this number, 0047 820 43 033. From outside Norway. The 0047 is the prefix for Norway.
The charge is 100 kroners for each call, ca 15 euros or almost 20 dollars and charged to your telephone account or your cash card.
The number for the latest Bangladesh cyclone victims is 0047 820 44 044. This number gives 25 euros or about 35 dollars.
I think that we should all try to give these scammers a chance to make good with a small donation to the needy.  |

Yeah, you're perilously close to getting a third party involved in a bait there. Not a good plan. |

Why not? You ring the number and a recorded voice thanks you for the donation. Thats it. The scammer will not be aware of it if he does not understand the language. He will ofcourse wonder what happened to his telephone bills. |

There was a discussion about doing this to lads a while back, theoretically a good idea but that discussion ended with a decision that it was involving a third party. I'll have a search for the topic. |

Well it is just one of those things we don't do: we don't get third parties involved.
You might hit the only lad in Nigeria who speaks Norwegian. Anything could happen and reverberate back onto a totally innocent charity. It isn't possible to know the full potential effects on a third party, hence we don't do it. |
