I am sorry if cat threads has be banned. I think KD (maybe TS but isn't he the nice one) said something but I may have been a dream. Anyhow, we got her on Sunday (she was in a pet shop but she is from the shelter).
Her name is Jackie and she is almost 5 months old. She came home with an eye infection, an upper chest infection, and a very bad case of ear mites. The vet said she will be fine and the eye infection is already taking care of itself. The vet put some drops in her ears and I have to take her back in a week for one more treatment. By then she will be well enough for her second set of shots and he said I should put a chip under her skin in case she ever gets lost.
The last time I has a cat I was 17. I think you guys and gals are rubbing off on me.
In case you're wondering why I got her a bed by my PC well...she kicked all my CDRs out so I had no choice.
The only thing I don't get is why do cats like that post made of carpet? I understand to scratch it but why? Oh well, she is very sweet and loves to be on top of or near someone. Isn't this odd for a shelter cat, especially one that is almost 5 months old? Also, is it bad to give kittens toys with cat nip? I accidentally bought some but she has other toys without cat nip . |

That is one cute cat.
Personally I don't find my cats had a problem with cat nip. I have always been surrounded with cats. There are no problems that I'm aware of.
also the carpet thing. what they are doing is marking their territory with scent glands in the feet. They would be just as happy sharpening the claws on your furniture, wall paper and stair carpet. Though you might disagree. |

Catnip is just an herb...it's ok if they eat it, in fact. You can buy it in tubs, like butter tubs, and put it in or on anything, or, just put some in a bowl and let them rub on it or eat it. |

Not really. My current cat is from a shelter and she's exactly the same. Adores people and likes nothing better than sleeping next to someone rather than by herself. |

Woo hoo a cat thread!! When I moved back from Egypt (where I had 2 gorgeous street cats) one of the first things I did was go around the shelters to find a kitty in need... Surprisingly, there weren't any! So we found one through a pet shop - he's really old, only has half his teeth and looks to have gone through a really rough time. But he's so lovely! He waits until I lie down to sleep, then jumps on the bed and cuddles up with me for the whole night... Can't ask for any more than that! |

Beautiful animal. I wish you guys a long and happy lifetime together.
@sekhmet29- I do the same thing with our Leukocyte. I tell him I'm ready for bed and he takes the shortcut and meets me there. Leuk was about 5 when we adopted him. |

@Connie - Ours is so polite. He sits by the edge of the bed until I'm lying comfortably, then only jumps up when I tap on the bed. I swear, that animal is more dog than cat sometimes!
This is my second cat that hasn't reacted to catnip in any way whatsoever. The one that did went absolutely mental for it though! |

Cute kitty. I love it when someone gets a rescue or pound kitty.
Some cats love catnip and others couldn't care less about it. Mine love the catnip filled toys, but the toys disappear within a day so I quit buying them. One day I will find all of them in the secret cat toy burial ground.
My male cat is cuddly and friendly, loves attention, sits/lays on my desk, rearranges all of my papers while I'm trying to work, and sleeps next to me at night. His sister loves getting petted and likes to sleep in the top section of the carpeted kitty condo, but she does not like being held, is not very cuddly and only friendly once she get to know you. Who knows what is going through their little cat brains. |

Fantasies about their humans being mice-sized....why else do you think they purr in their sleep? |

Thanks all for you nice comments. Jackie sits here next to me watching me scroll up and down on the forum page. I gave her the catnip toys but she hasn't really took interest in them yet.
I had dogs before (last one died over a year ago ) so the cat is a little different. She doesn't come running when her name is called. She just looks at you and will jump on you later or I have to get up and go pick her up. But she keeps me company, keeps the wife warm at night, and plays with the kids.
So yeah, I' glad she found us |
